In January, someone told me that an expert told him that software engineering would be dead in 3 months, and I scoffed at the time, but now I think it's pretty accurate
I mean, maybe your 3 month prediction is correct. But by definition that expert's 3 month prediction wasn't accurate because software engineering is still around and it's after April. We are 3.5 years in '6months until programming is solved'.
AI or not, most people never cared about documentation. I have always had to fight tooth and nail to get people to write shit down, and that hasn't changed with AI.
In 2021 I wrote a ton of docs for outlining our deployment and various how-tos, basically just got a "cool thanks bro" for my time. People never cared, I think AI is just a convenient modern excuse.
My take is that people feel powerless to really do anything against these massive tech companies. This is the only tangible way they can fight back.
I propose we build one under Sam Altman's house.
This is what bothers me the most about this whole situation. Reckless, greedy, sociopaths have been put in charge of our society and there doesn't seem to be any way out. It's like I'm on a train barreling toward a brick wall and everyone is shocked I don't clap when the engineer shovels more coal into the engine.
If this is how the 'good guys' act I think I'd rather take my chances with the bad actors...
Yeah, I think this needs to be update for the modern age. "Never attribute to malice that which can be explained by greed." Seems to fit vastly more situations.

Kind of weird you guys are being down-voted. This is absolutely true. I volunteered at the local Boys and Girls club for years and there was always a vibe when any new person or parent came in. Over 30 male working with kids always raises eyebrows. It sucks but it's also reality.
It's kind of wild that our system seems to be specifically set up to exploit people who care.
Sociopath who views people as just a barrier to their goals? Promotion to CEO, billion dollar bonus. Millions of tax dollars spent to bail you out of trouble.
Empathetic person willing to literally put your body on the line for other? Shit pay, shit hours, one unlucky break away from destitution.
What's even crazier is the majority of Americans seem to like it this way.

Wow! I would not have expected to hear about this game again. The first game was a lot of fun, definitely room to flesh out the game play loop but had great ideas.
It was kind of scary how prescient Jurassic Park was. Just swap genetics for AI and his warnings are incredibly applicable to modern times.
I re-read the book recently and it was really fun to read about the tech now. The descriptions of how difficult it was to build a database that could handle storing 3bil base pairs, which is trivia now. Probably the most sci-fi part of the book, they had image recognition tech so advanced it could track individual dinosaurs from arbitrary video angles alone.
Also, Nedry got absolutely shafted by Hammond in the book. Nedry describing the difficultly in building a complex system with minimal requirements had me sympathizing, lol.
Yeah, I don't agree with OP really. Cuts can be warranted, necessary and popular. It takes actual work to determine the best places to make cuts though. The DOGE cuts were completely vibes based and did basically nothing, especially since the big beautiful bill increased spending right after. Frankly, the main reason I hate the Trump admin is because they make policy 100% based on vibes, always choosing the most intellectually lazy way possible to implement their goals to 'fix' whatever problems they 'think' exist.
His cuts were actually considered and targeted. He didn’t just hire a billionaire to take a chainsaw to ‘woke’ gov programs.
