Immutable URLs 13 years ago

Seems like a bad idea. People think that once something is on the internet it's there forever but that's simply not the case. Hard drives develop errors, servers get shut down, backups get corrupted, etc. etc. Your stuff may be around for a long while but there's no guarantee that it will be permanently accessible. If you want the contents of a web page to be available to you then download said page to your computer and do proper backups, etc. This will increase the likelihood that said data will survive. This is not a problem with URLs.

He says that they designed Glass to free up your hands and eyes and ears, but that is only true when you're not using it. When you are using it you're using your hands to scroll, your eyes to look at the screen, and you are still listening for what it has to say. How is this different from a phone?

When your phone is in your pocket your hands and eyes and ears are free but when you are using it they're not. The only difference seems to be looking up and slightly cross-eyed and not down.

If Glass becomes a success, I fail to see how it would bring people out of the bubble they're in when using a phone. It seems like Glass just moves the bubble.

The app looks nice but it has usability issues.

I downloaded the app and used it for a bit but wasn't able to figure out how to do anything besides clear the page by swiping the grabber up and so I deleted it. I hadn't read the website nor the app description and there was nothing in the app itself to indicate that I should double-tap to bring up the action sheet. (Note that in iOS in general double-tapping is typically used to zoom.)

Here are two possible solutions.

(a) on first launch show a modal dialog that says something like "double-tap the grabber to access the menu"

or maybe a better fix:

(b) have the options "behind" the paper so when the user slides the grabber up the options become visible, then if the user continues to swipe all the way up the screen, the drawing is cleared.

I'd love to chat with you about the app. Post a link to your twitter/email/smoke signal/etc if you're interested.
