I think this can also be problematic. Long lived code _must_ work, which is good. However, it can also live a long time for bad reasons. I have seen long lived code that only lives a long time because it is so complicated that no one can understand how it works, or written in a way that is very hard to change. So it lives a long time, because no one wants to take the time or effort to touch it. Finally, when it _must_ be changed to support a new feature, it might require a full rewrite.

Good point, this seems like a case of survivorship bias. However, I think it does seem to show some sort of upper bound on the level and pervasiveness of sexism? That it's at least _possible_ for women to achieve at the highest level in these fields means sexism didn't stop everyone.

My guess is that's the same for cars (minor injuries go unreported). It's hard to speculate about unreported statistics. The fact remains that for reported statistics, motorists injure far more people than cyclists, thus I say fear of cyclists is irrational.
I don't think the data supports your assertion. Car drivers injure and kill a couple orders of magnitude more pedestrians in NYC than cyclists do.
