Can somebody well versed explain what the difference between TCP and UDP in this case? I obviously know what these are, I just don't understand why it's such a debatable choice applied to VPNs.

This is suspicious. They have the VPN traffic, now they want passwords. Encrypted of course, but still. The trust just isn't there. The company is too young. I don't trust them just because they have great design and UX.

I don't like that file operations are controlled by F1-F8 keys. This UX is unfriendly to macOS environment. Most users' F-row is in media keys mode by default, so you have to hold Fn otherwise. And I'm not even taking into account the Touch Bar.

I think Intel might get away with it.

Last 5 years they were slacking off, because economically there is no reason to go over the usual 10-15% yearly performance bump. But actually they were accumulating aces up their sleeves. Again, no reason to show your hand, if you don't have to.

But the time has come. Right now Intel has 3 major problems: 1) Meltdown/Spectre situation 2) AMD is awoken from sleep with surprisingly good Ryzen lineup 3) Apple craves new powerful CPUs to satisfy unhappy MacBook Pro customers

Intel can fix all of this with one sweep. Just by releasing a brand new CPU that will surprise everyone. Of course with hardware Meltdown/Spectre fix. They were holding off, but it's time to drop all these hidden aces on the table. And I believe it's gonna happen. Not right now with Cannon Lake, but with the one after - Ice Lake on 10nm transistors, by the end of 2018. It's going to be even bigger than NVIDIA's GTX 1080 success.

What's the difference between SentinelJS and DOM Mutation Observers?

I glanced at the source code, it seems this lib is using some kind of hack based on CSS animations. Why not just use Mutation Observers, which are the standard approved API to get the job done?

One of the biggest use cases of Evernote for me – OCR notes with search. All my important checks, slips and papers are going there. It's seems that Laverna doesn't have this feature. So it's not an alternative for me.

Nothing really changed, you could write Android apps on Kotlin before, as well as on any other JVM language. But now "Kotlin is the hero".

I suspect that Google's adoption of Kotlin is just politics: JetBrains develops Android Studio for Google, so they pushed Kotlin as part of the deal. Google could acknowledge Scala years ago, but didn't, because Scala authors spend less time on bullshit politics and more time on actually improving the language.

Also, I don't understand the point of Kotlin. Clojure, Groovy and Scala are all very distinctive from each other and have their own niche. Kotlin is just a subset of Scala. Same thing, but less features. I guess it's NIH principle applied to JetBrains.

Unfortunately, you can't. For example, it's impossible to properly install PostgreSQL. Also, no 256 colors support. Currently, there are 733 open issues https://github.com/Microsoft/BashOnWindows/issues It's still a beta feature. Nowhere near the smooth macOS experience.

At least they're pretty much equivalent in sizes and competing with each other. Imagine if Facebook, Google, Amazon and Apple merge into one big corp. That would be monopoly. There would be no competition at all. But that won't happen, because the government would intervene. So our current situation is somewhat OK.

Don't worry, you did the right thing.

1900 euros/month is peanuts. Even considering that you're fresh CS graduate, you're worth more.

Also, the fact that the contract is "non-negotiable" is a huge red flag. This company doesn't respect their employees. Trust me, you don't want to work in the environment like that.

Keep looking for job, the market is huge, you'll definitely find something decent.

I think this rule has a fair chance to survive:

1) Trump hates illegal immigrants. But Startup Visa (or any kind of Visa) implies only legal immigration path.

2) Trump doesn't like that immigrants take away jobs from locals. But startups tend to create new jobs, reducing unemployment.

3) Peter Thiel (Trump's new tech advisor) is a famous investor and a partner at Y Combinator. This guy needs new startups. Most likely, he will lobby Startup Visa initiative.

I'm using Papertrail and the experience so far is not so great. Dashboard UI looks like it wasn't updated since 2005. Also, the free plan is a joke: 10Mb of logs per day. When I started I managed to stay under this quota, but recently I've added a couple features that spits additional log data. Now I have to either filter some valuable logs or become a paying customer (which I can't afford for such thing as logging).

Looking to migrate to https://logentries.com At least their free plan offers 5Gb/month.
