If you are wondering "why do formal methods at all?" or "how is AWS using P to gain confidence in correctness of their services?", the following re:Invent 2023 talk answers this question, provides an overview of P, and its impact inside AWS: (Re:Invent 2023 Talk) Gain confidence in system correctness & resilience with Formal Methods (Finding Critical Bugs Early!!) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdXZXnkMDxs

Github: https://github.com/p-org/P

"What are your actual priorities? … This question can help you determine the place you want to live, the kind of house or apartment you want to live in, your family’s essential needs (food, electricity, healthcare), and the cost of the activities that add pleasure and meaning to your life – traveling, hobbies, etc. It also allows you to consider what your priorities are from an impact perspective – involvement in your community, being there for your friends, reducing your waste – at the same time as you’re thinking about your material needs. Rather than cordoning off your value-oriented priorities into a less urgent category, to be pursued when you’ve reached financial satisfaction, you are making them of equal importance.”

This recalibration challenges the false dichotomy that keeps us stuck:

“The scarcity mindset keeps you thinking you have to choose between a good life and a life that benefits the collective good. And, it is partly the vacuous, limitless promise of consumerism that keeps you thinking you have to choose between your values and your financial needs.”

CoreWeave now claims to be the largest private operator of Nvidia GPUs in North America, with more than 45,000 chips. It has raised more than $10bn in debt in the past 12 months from lenders including Blackstone, Carlyle and Illinois-based hedge fund Magnetar Capital.

The debts are secured against CoreWeave’s stock of Nvidia GPUs and the capital is used to buy thousands more.

The golden rule is to read as few contemporary books as possible.

Given our finite lives, and the centuries-deep canon of literature, what logic is there in reading something current? More than 120mn unique titles have been published since the dawn of the printing press. What are the odds that one written in 2024 deserves our limited time?

TL;DR: s3-batch-object-store is a Go module that allows for batch uploading of objects to a single S3 file and retrieving each object separately using the AWS S3 API, fetching only the bytes for that specific object.

The method basically consists of appending multiple objects to a single file, keep the information of where each object is placed in the file, and then upload one single file to s3 with many objects in it, reducing drastically the number of PUT operations needed to store a large number of objets.

The developer company educed storage costs by 70% with our new approach. You can head to their s3-batch-object-store GitHub repository (https://github.com/embrace-io/s3-batch-object-store) to check out the module and try it out.
