I couldn't disagree more. It's very difficult for younger and inexperienced people to know where to start and learn something as difficult as making a game. I know adults who don't even know where to get started with web development.
In fact I would say the opposite is true. Kids should go out and enjoy a collaborate learning environment like this, instead of being isolated in their homes trying to figure things out on their own.

Dogs also take more time to take care of than cats, which means their owners are less likely the type to go out on dates all the time. I barely know any single men who own dogs, unless they live with their parents, or are involved already. I don't think it directly has anything to do with having a cat or a dog in your photo..

Interesting. The problem you addressed about interacting with new people in a comfortable way is a problem we're trying to tackle at Uni+ http://uniplus.me
Right now we automatically match users similar to Facebook Graph, but we do it specifically on things people care about - people nearby who share your interests, hometown, classes, industry, etc. Our app is also university-only at the moment to filter out the creeps. We've also recently experimented with a location-based group chat feature in order to promote local interaction.
I wouldn't categorize this issue in the same domain as Facebook though. Facebook is about two things -- sharing and friends. There's a mental divide between the friends and strangers, so users would never use it to meet new people. There's already platform to share things between strangers (reddit), but a platform to "interact" with strangers (which is what facebook used to do, but with friends) still has yet to emerge.

This guy's an outsourcing company.. of course he's going to look for cheaper talent in other continents. He also has little understanding or appreciation of quality of code and scalability, because he really doesn't have to worry about it. He's building Facebook apps that probably aren't vey complicated.
The salary of software developers in Canada is also substantially lower than the US. A $70k developer salary in Canada is approximate to a $90-100k salary in New York, Silicon Valley.
Not sure what the purpose of that article was, since a lot of us are building tech companies, not outsourcing agencies.. I guess this is why I don't read techvibes.
