For iOS, can't you just wrap your web application in a thin native app layer that provides the push functionality?

Even if the app had it in their privacy policy, that would not mean it is legal to send your data to Facebook.

GDPR requires the users consent to do so. Having a statement in a privacy policy is imho not enough to qualify as consent.

I am in Europe, so by law (GDPR) I have the right to make them delete all of this data.

At 12:50 the policeman slams shut the door of her car and it is in sync with the audio.

At about 48:00 the door of another car gets slammed. Its clearly on the audio, but about 1 second too early.

I have friends in Macedonia. They have a GDP of $5k per capita. And I witness nobody sleeping on the streets, when I visit them.

Greece has to pay back its debt. You can philosophize all you want. There is no way around it.

The question is if one should "fix" this at all. If you change the behavior from "foreign keys do not activate triggers" to "foreign keys activate triggers", everyone who uses triggers will have to audit their applications for potential problems. And for large applications, that can be a lot of work.

Personally, I am grateful for software that changes as seldom as possible. I don't want to spend time on "updating" my application because something down in the stack changed.

Giving an app full internet access is still too much for me. I wonder why Android does not implement a permission to access a specific domain. A Facebook app that has access to facebook.com would be fine with me.

This page's horrible readability

It might not look fancy, but the readability is way better then on most sites these days. It loads fast, it has enough contrast, there are no distracting elements like images or animations that make it hard to focus on the content, scroll works as expected, the content is not split into useless pages, it does not make my fan spin up because some elements use insane amounts of computation power, content is not squeezed into some tiny box as it often is on other websites...

If the average website would let me read as comfortably as this one, that would be a huge step forward.

Is Windows a good citizen on the harddisk nowadays? I stopped trying Windows releases because they used to change my bootsector or something, so my machine suddenly only booted Windows. Instead of showing me a menu (grub?) of partitions to choose from.

How about Linux on the new MacBook? It's a nice machine and my old lenovo looks a bit "unhipsterish" when I work in a cafe. Also it's heavier. But I live in Linux, so I would have to be sure it works.

Hmm.. what do I have to do to experience those performance problems? I use Mint and Debian on my machines and I never have any problems. Nothing ever stutters or lags or whatever.

I mainly use Firefox, the Terminal, Gimp and Libre Office. No performance problems whatsoever. And I have pretty old machines. An over 5 years old lenovo laptop and a similarely old desktop machine.

It would also be nice to have a percentage view that gives relative numbers.

The results are somewhat fuzzy. For example "coder" and "coders" give the exact same graph. Looks like "coders" also finds posts that don't contain "coders" at all but only "coder".

I run a bunch of websites. Each has over 100,000 visitors per month. Most are pretty old, look like complete trash and are a nightmare to use on small screens.

Over the last months, from time to time I redesigned one of them. Make them look good and work nicely on small screens.

Feedback from users has been great. I get "Wow, looks so much better!!" and "Awesome redesign!!" messages sent to me all the time.

But surprisingly, the metrics I follow did not change a bit. Not even when I only look at the analytics for mobile phones. Bounce rate, pages per visit, time on site, events on the site - it all just stays flat. A site that had 6 pageviews per visitor before making it mobile friendly has 6 pageviews per visitor after.

Strange, hu? How can a site where you have to awkwardly zoom in after each click get the same pageviews per visit on a mobile phone as a site where everything is layed out on the screen in a nice way?

How are your experiences with making sites mobile friendly?

Interesting. Now I understand why I hear "centos" so often lately. So far, I only know Debian based distros. I wonder how much work it would be to switch to one of these two.

I really don't have any custom needs. Any old linux distro will do.

But only 2 to 3 years? That is very short. What would be a good alternative with longer support? There must be market for it I guess. Don't companies simply want to run their stuff as long as possible? Many companies still use Windows XP. And that's 14 years old.

I have some legacy linux servers that need an update to a new OS. Is Debian 8 a good choice? All I care about is that stuff just works for as many years as possible, gets security updates and does not break.

Why continue to bother with those? What can you gain from it? It won't make the world a better place. Don't be bitter about people who treat you lika a "dick". They don't mean it. They just did not notice. We all have very limited attention to others. In the same time, you probably have been a dick to others without noticing it.

It will make the world a better place when you find a job where you are welcome and can work with people you click with. What is your skillset?
