I always thought "Work hard, study hard, do your best job and things will always work out for you." It's a bit of a shock to realize that's a lie.

It's not quite a lie. It most certainly is code for you having applied to the wrong position.

There are plenty of places where the hiring managers will know more than you, or if they don't, understand that specialization is probably going to turn out OK, and that you're not a threat but a possible asset.

A better solution would be to integrate the Greek economy into a paneuropean federal country, that simply eats the losses of Greece. I am certain some states in America are net beneficiaries of federal spending (more government dollars flow into it than are retrieved through taxes.)

Better -- for whom?

You will already find that debtor states (at the national level) find it much harder to generate sympathy within the nation if they consistently, repeatedly and unchangeably show that they cannot manage their finances.

So please, explain it to me like I'm five:

How do you think those with money would be willingly convinced to part with it, if they don't even give it up for their own kin?

I was programming off of those specs and quickly realized that all of the "fun stuff" was already figured out and I was just typing in code, so I started hiring out the programming work.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I figured.

As far as your status goes, in my book you can't easily transfer that to opensource projects: You do need to go through a bit of the programming work yourself, again, to see how things work in order to get to that same position you fill with respect to business prospects.

At this point I'd say: team up with a few opensource-interested developers and form your own project, from scratch.

So now, gold prices have been weak for a few years, so they have to come up with a new narrative. And that narrative is global conspiracy. So you get groups like GATA [1] and Zero Hedge [2] pushing various stories about how gold is being squirreled away somewhere mysterious, or prices are being suppressed by faceless multinationals or what-have-you. Maybe it's true! I don't know, but there's never really been any evidence, and it just sounds like someone justifying a failed investment thesis.

I've been following the Gold bug sphere in 2006, 2007 and there's absolutely nothing new about these conspiracy theories. They have been pushing them ever since, and you haven't even scratched at Bilderberger/Illuminati/Jews/Take your influential minority.
