Thanks, that explained a lot.

One side demanded equal opportunity, but actually have greater opportunity than other side. However equal opportunity does not guarantee equal outcome.

I will check the list 10 years from now.

It is different: Cellphone, especially smartphone nowadays, has extended reach.

When your phone is taken away after they forced you enter SU level password, you have no control of it, they do.

Whoever took it inside the room, they can:

Browser your email, check who you contacted since you have you email box: Why you bought this on amazon? Why you bought that from Ebay? For what reason you purchase two pressure cookers from and nails from Walmart at the same time?

Check your contacts: Who is Mr.X? When was the last time you talk to Mr. Y? What was in the conversation?

Check what you have posted on facebook/Twitter. You supported Aaron Swartz? You are in the protest called The Day we Fight Back? What was the protest about? Who you are with?

You may have home security Cam APP installed: Who sitting in the sofa? How many rooms do you have? Is this your wife? What is her social security number? What is her first name? On the day of Feb 21, 2013, who are the two male visited your home? What's their name and what's the purpose of the visit? How long they stayed in your house? What car they are diving? What is the plate number?

Copy all your photos for further investation.

Install Spyware, Copy your RSA key stored in your phone.

Battery Guide 10 years ago

I bought 16 total Low Self-Sidcharge NiMh AAA/AA from amazon back to 2009.

That was the last time I buy batteries in that spec because they still work today.

True.

Microsoft would not beat IBM for being 'the next IBM'

Tesla would not beat Major car industries for being 'the next-gen Toyota way'

and, Google, probably will be replaced by someone in a complete industry. My guess that might be something that comes from VR.

For a moment I have to check your username to make sure this is not my reply.

I am surprised how anyone can pay with discount in an APP call "dianping". For a two week trip in china, I found out even Taxi driver will accept my Wechat payment and they don't even know english.

I recall @pg 's essay immediately:

"WHAT YOU'LL WISH YOU'D KNOWN"

http://www.paulgraham.com/hs.html

here is what he wrote: If I were back in high school and someone asked about my plans, I'd say that my first priority was to learn what the options were.

Silicon Valley, or people on HN generally, are doing this unconsciously. I was shock that a lot of (non tech)people accept things as they are (as default). They let phone APP like LinkedIn scan and grab the contact list; buy things that are in the trend; over estimate price but underestimate value, etc.

ADs is good only if they introduce something new, CES-ish new, something that are not in the trend but available up on request. Something that you are not aware of, hope we get to that type of ad-era soon enough.

Real banks will ask you for Driver Licenses and SSN when you open a bank account with them.

Information on DL has your height, eye color, address, telephone number, your photo, your finger prints. That's why they don't need to ask for your income again.

However, I tried Coinbase and will not use them ever again.

"Quora is a knowledge-sharing community that depends on everyone being able to pitch in when they know something."

I just cannot stand with Quora keep asking me to continue with Facebook or google. If majority of users in Quora are based on people who obey dictatorship from Quora, then probably it is not the place for true knowledge.

It is more than that.

most traffic condition on map rely on Toll Tag to measure travel time and speed between points, on normal highway.

Unless you have a detachable tag, otherwise your tag ID will appear on every single major interception, with time, speed between blocks. Most of Tag will ship to your house, and/or auto fill by credit card once the balance is low.

People probably imagine they will be erased after few years, but $sudo happeneds.

It is scary for me to know:

#Majority of people post photo of friends on Facebook without understand facial recognition always scans.

#Prefer convenient over privacy, such as Toll Tag on cars.

#Follow trends.

Interesting.

I always wonder about this: in order to decrypt a file/volume encrypted by TrueCrypt, user just need to type their NOT-SO-LONG password. With today's capability such as EC2 or quantum computing as you mentioned, isn't that just minutes away to crack a 12 digi password?

I am surprised most of us only believe/get news from CNN & MSNBCish. Vietnam is the one who building in the South China Sea. Vietnam is building two islands: West London Reef and Sand Cay, at the year of 2010.

Vietnam build islands, CNN FOX cricket, cricket. China build islands, it is against international law.

This is something very similar to the Seniority in government system.

The one who been there longer has more power, even they do not have brilliant idea nor ability to perform.

Haven't been to Hackathon but Defcon.

This is just my personal guide upon arrival:

1>Turn OFF wifi

2>Turn OFF bluetooth

3>If someone touched me, check immediately if something strange attached.

4>Never connect to Defcon Wifi,

5>Make sure my dial tone is mule if I have to call,

6>Make sure you have fun. Most people there are nice and knowledgeable.

I recently purchase a Dell Inspiron Laptop which gave me a nightmare to install Windows 7 on it.

The "secure Boot" isn't to secure the boot against rootkit, but secure from "unauthorized" or "unsupported" install your favorite operate system. In this case, I cannot install windows 7 on my brand new laptop.

I still remember the SIM card lock from carriers years ago, so if i am the vigilant, I am going to ask users to pay upfront to unlock "Secure Lock" so that they can install another operate system.
