95% of people drive because 95% of transportation funding goes to enabling that choice.

People at large are rational and will make rational transportation choices given incentives. The incentives are all aligned towards driving right now because that benefits the auto industry.

You cannot make assertions about how Americans behave, "culturally," based on their transportation choices because these choices are not happening in a vacuum.

Case in point: when Americans visit Disneyland, or NYC, or Amsterdam, they do not typically insist on driving through those places.

The simple geometry problem of how much space cars take up is arguably the worst now (given tailpipe emissions are on their way out), and there is no solution to that outside of fewer and much smaller cars.

Billions of people all over this planet take trips every day without the use of personal private automobiles.

It's fascinating how, to me, my comment was very clearly "don't use a car if you care about privacy" but that interpretation didn't even occur to you. Car dependency runs deep.

This requires the assumption that your location and your car's location are always one and the same.

If you care about your privacy consider leaving the vehicle with tracking numbers on it at home sometimes. It's not just cops that have ALPRs and you cannot prevent this technology from existing.

EVs use more than an average home's entire daily electricity budget to go 50 miles. In an emergency you could run your lights, fridge, and water heater for weeks on an EV battery. It's really not much wear and tear.

Cars are an immensely inefficient platform.

This assumes there's an army of competent mods in waiting that the admins can tap into, who could take over (without many of the tools the previous mods used) and effectively run some of the largest communities on the internet.

This strikes me as unlikely.

This finally made it click for me why I stopped playing online multiplayer games when dedicated servers were abandoned in favor of matchmaking. All the villages were gone.

People have been trying for years to do what you're describing with gaming-centric Android TV boxes.

People don't want to play mobile games on their TV. They want to watch TV while playing mobile games.

I don't even release the CMD key between presses and it's all done with one hand extremely quickly. I've often wondered if Chrome collects usage statistics on this and what it looks like from their perspective. "This user opens a lot of tabs, pastes stuff in the address bar, then gives up before the new tab page is even done loading."

The touchpad is inferior to the trackpoint, so I'd much rather they get rid of it entirely instead.

I bought a North Face SURGE which advertises this, but at LAX and Heathrow I was made to remove my laptop from the bag regardless. It just ended up wasting time as I tried to run the bag through with the laptop in it both times, and both times they made me take it out and send it through again.

Luckily I was able to return the bag when I got back to the states. It was nice otherwise, but I'd really bought it for the TSA convenience.

This list is a joke, that's not even close to a 1:1 comparison. It looks like they intentionally picked the most expensive options for everything. You don't need a $160 AIO water cooler, a $250 1000W power supply, or a $650(!?!?!) motherboard. The Vega in the iMac doesn't compare to a 1080 at all.

To anyone with an understanding of PC hardware it's clear this list was composed specifically to justify the iMac pro's price.

Nope, you do it through an app or website for every card I've gotten.

They really don't. Trying to find a toilet you can use in downtown San Diego even as a regular looking person is a struggle and you will probably end up having to buy something. Businesses won't let you use their facilities if you look dirty or homeless, and there aren't any city owned bathrooms at least that I've seen in the 2 years I've been here so far.

E*Trade and other online brokers are the "rich," with their silly fees and ridiculous limits on when you can take your money out.

Robinhood, by not having fees, takes the stock market from the rich and opens it up to everyone else. IMO it's a great name.

They're not the same thing by a long shot. Slimfast is essentially a weight loss oriented protein shake, it's got almost no fats or sugars. Slimfast themselves don't even recommend using it for every meal, or using it long term.

Soylent is an actual meal replacement. You can consume nothing but Soylent for as long as you want to. It's not geared towards weight loss, just as an alternative to food. It provides complete nutrition.

Also I can't find anything on the site today, nor can I remember any advertising in the past that would lead me to believe it's a gendered product. SlimFast aggressively advertises towards women, sure, but I fail to see how Soylent is geared towards men.

Flash is one of the best workflows for animators ever. This is equivalent to Photoshop being EOL'd because Apple doesn't like the pictures you can make with it.

Tons of animators still use Flash, the tools are by far the best and easiest for making animated and interactive content. It used to also have an awesome publishing path, but Apple killed that off. All the animators I know still work with it, but record the flash animations as videos and post 'em on youtube.
