"Impossible" is a bold qualifier. Maybe he was exaggerating - maybe not. Will critical thinking necessarily become more difficult - to learn, teach, exercise - with AI? It's possible it will help people become better thinkers, but I don't think that's a guarantee.

I think intuitively I would've guessed the body of an electric has much less to do with the sound than the body of an acoustic, but it was super cool to see this tested with the air guitar. I never would've attempted to build that so I'm glad he did.

These qualifications seem to me to be in conflict. If there's low confidence about the most likely cause, then does that imply that there's low confidence about every possible cause? Could there be high confidence in the least likely cause? That, too, seems contradictory to me.

Fair enough! I'll admit, there are a number of somewhat unwieldy idioms in philosophy, but I think in a lot of cases they do serve to pick out a distinct notion.
For what it's worth, in the expression "to think that p", "p" is meant to designate any arbitrary proposition; e.g., if p is the proposition "it is raining", then "to think that p" expands to "to think that it is raining". (Likewise q is some other arbitrary proposition.) "There's something it's like to X" is a conventional way of saying that (under normal circumstances) X causes or corresponds with a conscious experience. In the quoted sentence "consciously" is a little superfluous, but the paper is dealing with phenomenology (the study of first person conscious experience), so I'm assuming the author added it for emphasis.
It's a pretty technical paper and there's a lot of terminology and assumptions of background knowledge. I definitely find myself reading sentences over and over, but I tend to assume that those issues are more the result of my lack of understanding than of clarity of writing.
You’ve probably noticed this effect in the real world.
Suppose you’re at a restaurant waiting for your meal to arrive. You don’t know exactly how long it will take, but you have some reasonable bounds (say, more than 10 minutes but less than 30). Suppose you’ve been waiting ~20 minutes. It’s reasonable then to expect that the meal should be arriving soon. Suppose now that it’s been ~25 minutes. Then you expect that it should be arriving very soon. At ~30 minutes, you’d think that it must be on its way out of the kitchen or will be very, very soon. At ~35 minutes you’re convinced it must be there any moment.
As the time continues to increase, you find yourself in a sort of paradox—because you have a frame of reference for how long it takes a meal to arrive to a table, you expect that, as the time elapsed increases, the time remaining should decrease; on the other hand, at some point (some t+n significantly greater than you’d expect to wait), you find it just as reasonable that there’s a problem and that perhaps you should be expecting the remaining time to increase!
You may experience something similar at a red light. After waiting 2 minutes, you think surely the light will change very soon, but after 10 minutes you think perhaps the light will never change.
These are slightly different formulations of the Lindy effect but I think they’re equivalent or at least analogous and you can witness them all over the place if you look.
It’s a stretch but I’d say a lot of modern analytical philosophy could be considered “technical” in the sense that the convention is to articulate ideas and arguments as clearly and precisely as possible.
My recommendations would be Hilary Putnam, Nelson Goodman, and W.V.O Quine.
A paper I’m currently reading, which was seminal in phenomenology, is “ The Phenomenology of Cognition: Or What Is It Like to Think That P?”[1] by David Pitt. Really nice example of a well-formed thesis.
