I’m not against big exits / valuations and showing the numbers. But… what would have added a bit of interest would have been real metrics. For example I believe AirBnB has 2 billion guest nights. Showing that instead of the ipo value is more impressive to people who want to deliver value rather than capture value.

Real world metrics would feel slightly more on brand than valuations

I don’t think these probabilities are correct. Every parent is told not to feed their under 1 year olds honey, many times.

In an extreme example… only 20 parents fed their kids honey and 20 kids contracted botulism.

That would be a 100% risk. Obviously in real life it’s not 100% of kids, but still could be a meaningful percentage and likely higher than 1 in 50,000 for babies that eat honey.

Multiple factors may lead to you paying more than the average:

1. Not all Americans have cars or drive.

2. Each state has different legislative structures which impact payouts and medical costs. Some states cost more than the average per accident, some cost less.

3. Your risk may be higher than average

4. You may drive more or less miles than average

5. Your choice of car makes you more or less risky

We bought one back in 2020 and I’d say it’s the single best purchase I have made in the last 10+ years. My wife and I use it or the app to work out almost every day and I’ll log 700+ hours this year which will be about 10% more than last year. 75% of which will be off bike in the other classes which you can pay a lower membership for.

Despite some really bad decisions by the management team on letting expenses get out of control, it’s an absolutely incredible product.

I’ve kind of solved this. You can snap windows but you need to add a shortcut in systems to do it. It’s not perfect, but it does work and overtime you miss it less and less

I have tinnitus and AirPod pros and haven’t noticed any difference. I do find that not drinking out of straws or especially camelpak style bottles with straws really minimizes it. Also, more sleep, less tinnitus

My son has multiple severe nut allergies so I’ve gone from having zero awareness to having too much.

Allergies are fascinating bc they are a continuum and random.

Continuum from…

zero symptoms if you eat the protein in the nut and just a positive blood test…

all the way to…

cannot be in same room as nuts if they will have a reaction that constricts their ability to breath.

They are also random in that your outcome can be wildly different each time.

The result imo is that drs who detect any food allergy, let’s say the child has a slightly swollen lip after eating sesame will run labs on blood and skin and get some real positives and some false positives.

Next they say not to eat anything the person is allergic to in order to prevent a life threatening allergy.

If no blood or skin tests existed this person may go through life mainly avoiding the food bc it’s uncomfortable, but never think of themselves as allergic to X.

Net result is that people with allergies are safer now, but the % of people we know have allergies has increased.

As a side note, if you are reading this as a parent with a kid with a recently discovered food allergy, please note… it totally sucks, but… you will adjust over time to the higher workload and constant label reading, hang in there.

I received the notification today for a 4.9 or something like that. It took me at least a half second to second to read the message.

I agree with your point that the message should have way less info which could buy me additional time.

Something like: 4.5-5.9: “Earthquake cat 1” 6.0-6.3: “Earthquake cat 2”

Etc. something to tell me, get ready, or something to tell me this is going to be huge, but not precise numbers or even better:

“Earthquake, 3.87 seconds” with a count down would be ideal. If I have 7 seconds I can get outside. 2 seconds and I duck and cover.

I moved from PC to Mac at work. Anyone have any suggestions on the best guides to get up and running on default hotkeys?

Does anyone have a recommended way to monitor my wifi connection on my PC or Mac over time?

I recently started at a new company which uses google meets and I’m having an issue where my out sound and video output freeze for people communicating with me for 1 to 3 seconds.

I’ve replaced the PC and I’m still having the issue so Id like to troubleshoot the problem by ensuring my network connection is working correctly.

Hardware: replaced google home wifi mesh with top of the line eero mesh.

Does anyone have any sense how the pro 6e will perform in the city with interference vs something like google home Wi-Fi? I’m having a lot of issues on video calls and hardwiring is not a good option.

It’s definitely early, but not too early to see it once you dive in. NFTs are a very small off shoot of what web3 is about to offer. Jpegs and songs will be part of it, but not likely the biggest part.

I don’t think I’ll ever be a buyer of NFT jpegs but I can still appreciate what is possible

ConstitutionDAO 5 years ago

A DAO is more like a specific corporate governance mechanism than a company. For example, ConstitutionDAO will be a non-profit, with a non-profit board etc. I presume they will put things up for vote using the DAO.

If it is executed flawlessly it will prove DAOs as a viable corporate governance mechanism. If it fails or struggles, there will be learnings.

ConstitutionDAO 5 years ago

I funded a small amount of it.

DAOs (distributed Autonomous Organizations) could be better thought of in a corporate governance framework.

A) Least distributed corporate governance: Sole proprietorship who owns 100% of their business

Every other organization sits between least and most distributed

B) Most distributed corporate governance: Full democracy state controlled

DAOs are special because the voting mechanism lets people vote across boarders/jurisdictions etc from their computer... but it also relies on the creators giving the right level of control to the DAO voting. If they gave voters 100% control, someone could do a 51% attack and have it destroyed, or something else. But, if they don't give enough control it is effectively a rug pull.

ConstitutionDAO is an amazing initiative because it puts so many assumptions up for a test, and crosses crypto world to mainstream. Its revolutionary.

The 'power' struggle is real... and fully on display

I agree with your comment, and just want to add that interest rate changes alone can explain a lot of the appreciation.

If you have the exact same income and rates are at today's 3% vs 2008's 6%, the payments on a $1.0MM home mortgage would be $4.2K vs $6.0k. The difference between those two payments is about $40k/year of gross income difference.

A person in 2021 with the exact same income as 2008 would be paying the same for a $1.4M mortgage per month as the person in 2008 at a $1.0M mortgage.

I don't own a home, so I'm not saying this to justify my purchase, but if I just take the info in the graph, I actually wonder whether there is a lot more room to go in the market. I wonder if we are looking at another 20-30% appreciation before the top?

I have no idea.

They want their public data public, but owned. It won’t be ‘on chain’ it will be off chain but the ownership token will be ‘on chain’.

As an example, they may have their public photos in IPFS, served from their server (or shared pointers), but will have ownership rights of those photos on chain.

That is different than Instagram where Facebook owns the images.

They cannot be deplatformed which is valuable. The question is whether it’s value exceeds the value of Instagram distribution.

Yeah. I started really digging in earlier this year and what I realized was that web3 offers true ownership over the important parts of your online identity.

For the average user, it’s not exceptionally helpful yet, but for power users like celebrities, politicians and executives, it is extremely valuable.

Where they go everyone else will go. Web3 has a massive future

Assuming B29 is a series of measurements, this is the right solution in my opinion. The challenge is the cost of measuring and tagging every item after production. The relationship to model out is cost of pre-measuring every garment vs cost of returns. If you could dramatically lower your return rate you may be able to be more profitable measuring every garment. But... even measuring successfully presents challenges.

Going in to a store would seem absolutely insane if you could just order tons of stuff in your size and it all fits and you would not have to make returns.
