I do wonder about the economics of CCS vs. investing more aggressively in wind and solar.

This is a big deal here in Alberta where the Oil companies are complaining about footing the bill for CCS. If instead of spending a few billion on CCS, how much CO2 reduction would we get if invested in solar and wind.

I'm not so sure. It seems those with capital will accumulate it even faster.

Without some kind of income redistribution we are sailing into dark waters.

To be fair, that's a one time process. You do not need to do that for every app you want to sideload.

The malware issue that the flow is designed to mitigate is a very real problem. Perhaps there is a better way, but it's not immediately clear what that is.

A bunch of people here are conflating low stakes amateur sports with elite sports.

Mixed league works fine for your company softball team. Not so much for professional sports.

If we are talking about amateur sports where the stakes are low, the concept of slotting athletes into divisions makes sense.

In elite sports, no one wants to see "best in division X". They want to see the best hockey players, the best golfer, the best skier, etc. The money incentives are considerable.

This would destroy women's professional sports.

UBI will require a more progressive tax system. The Oligarchs are having none of that.

Clearly they have not reached parity, as evidenced by the crash rate of Tesla.

It's far from clear that the current HW4 + sensor suite will ever be sufficient for L4.

I have HW4, and have tried FSD with every major release.

It works brilliantly, 99.5% of the time. The issue is that the failure mode is catastrophic. Like getting confused with the lane marking and driving off the shoulder. And the complete inability to read construction zone signs (blasting through a 50 KM zone at 100 KM).

I'm deeply skeptical that the current sensor suite and hardware is going to have enough compute power to safely drive without supervision.

It will no doubt improve, but until Tesla steps up and assumes liability for any accident, it's just not "full self driving".

For the back seats you can order webbing strips from Temu for five bucks. They are easy to spot (bright yellow).

I point them out to any passengers in the back seat.

Reading the comments on that Fox site is depressing. A lot of hate for Apple, but for the wrong reasons (as in, completely missing the danger of centralized app stores..).

This is what Tesla should have built instead of the Cybertruck.

It should be obvious that the thing doing the interpretation and navigation is a human, not an automated system.

Clients can be almost automatic with a HATEOS implementation, because it is a self describing protocol.

Given the advancements in LLMs, it's not even clear that RESTish interfaces would be easier for them to consume (say vs. gRPC, etc.)

Tesla's insane valuation based on future hypothetical robots is hard to justify given announcements like these.

The fleet car drives very slowly the first time, perhaps under supervision of a human.

The point is - you have a massive fleet of cars with all the right sensors to create a high resolution map.

The mapping problem keeps getting brought up (often by Tesla enthusiasts).

It just doesn't seem like a huge problem? If you have cars equipped with high resolution Lidar and cameras, mapping new routes seems like it ought to scale as the fleet is expanded.

This problem seems embarrassingly parallel.
