Things have changed a lot since 2012. The Keto/Paleo/LCHF movement has definitely increased demand for new cooking oils, including animal fats. At Whole Foods, I regularly see beef and duck tallow + pork (lard) prominently displayed now.

The difference is that if you're an IC you generally have to produce actual work that will be evaluated at some point. It's of course possible to BS your way into showing your manager you did more than you actually did or better than what you actually produced. If you're in management, then your job becomes mostly talking/meetings, which is much more conducive to "hand waving," which is probably why there are so many BSers who end up thriving in those roles.

I have never had a good experience with weed personally...it just seems to make me paranoid, tired, and I feel like I can't do anything for the rest of the day and at least half the day the next.

This shouldn't be surprising. If you're on an employer-based healthcare plan, a HDHP only makes sense if you're young, healthy, have no dependents, don't take expensive medication, and your employer pays most of the annual cap into your linked HSA.

I fit most of those checkboxes, but I take PrEP (preventative HIV med) that is something like $1500/month before deductible, and the math for HDHP vs traditional plan does not check out in that case at all.

When I switched to a low/no carb diet my gums were much less inflamed and stopped experiencing bleeding in my gums (w/ regular flossing). I also stopped getting that "filmy" feeling in my mouth when I'd occasionally sleep/take a nap before brushing after a carb-heavy meal.

I think this is a special situation. Everyone at HQ is mid-career, ex-FANG, almost certainly all have a decent level of savings and could likely find another job pretty easily.

At this point, why wouldn't you just quit? I get that there's equity on the line, but the average tenure is probably around a year (if that) given how new the company is. It was clear from the WSJ article on the drama between the two founders up to the other one's death that the current CEO is a textbook sociopath.

Convinced the only reason why talented rank-and-file employees would petition instead of leave is because we live in a world where we're all expected to become grossly emotionally attached to our work, despite how toxic work environments can be.

I'm talking specifically about high tax states like CA, NY, NJ. If you isolate taxpayers in those states the change affects a lot more than 7% of residents of those states.

This change was about Trump's desire to hurt residents of blue, high tax coastal states. To minimize this as something that only affects the .1% is rationalizing his terrible tax policy.

Anyone living in a state with high income and/or property taxes will likely pay more this year given the $10k cap on deductions for state and local taxes which was previously unlimited before the 2018 tax year...
