I think when they show it in every life situation (except on a funeral, maybe), it's safe to assume that the general idea is 'in life'.

When ruling against government 'trojan horses' infecting private computers, the German Constitutional Court used a similar idea, thereby extending the German contitution's equivalent of integrity of the home by introducing a new 'Fundamental right to confidentiality and integrity of information systems'. So this is something that can also be interpreted in a modern way.
I realize that the court ruling was about private computers, not data on servers, but as you said, it makes a difference if the informations systems you use can be expected to produce 'public' records.
Additionally, 'not implemented in Germany' is not entirely correct. It was implemented by the Great Coalition a couple of years ago, then declared unconstitutional by the Constitutional Court shortly after. So all upcoming formulations of data retention will have to comply with those constitutional requirements.
@dropbox_support says they're working on it, but no details and no ETA.
It's interesting that they have a strong preference for spheres as the basic shape of many larger builds, apparently.
In the context of Finance, I have read about Haskell and other functional programming languages several times before, so I was wondering what were the specific benefits of doing financial stuff in functional languages? Is it because complex solutions are easier to prove to be correct? And how does the (more or less purely) functional approach there work out with the fact that they basically do I/O all the time, meaning (I guess) high frequency input of financial data, computing and then output from and to standardized existing interfaces?
Edit: What I mean by that is - everytime I read FP books, IO is basically what everybody tries to explain on the last few pages and is rather ashamed to do at all. That makes it hard to imagine how those languages come to use in real world scenarios, that's why I'm asking ;-)

Actually there's not a 'rest of the text' that is homogenous, unless it's completely uppercase. In normal body copy it's a rhythm of ascending and descending letters, and to that those numerals are meant to fit.
The meaning of 'Lining Figures' is numerals that are spaced proportionally (the opposite of their tabular version). They are a good option in technical texts (as those set with LaTeX typically) where you want to integrate numerals, but still have them stand out. They are also the default numerals in many digital fonts, even if there are the 3 other options as well (it's a 2x2 system of proportional vs monospaced and text numerals vs lining numerals).
A working back button would be nice (to get back to language selection).

It's actually not such a big hack - it just uses technology that is meant to be used for writing systems that have to put together characters as pieces, because there are so many of them, like many asian languages require :-)

Wow, i watched the first video batch and think it's the best online course so far. Very in-depth, but at the same time incredibly well chosen examples. Initially I was sceptical because the videos seem to be taped lectures rather than the type of screencast I know from mlclass and aiclass, but it's really well done.
There is a notable difference of course between courses like PGM and ML, which go pretty much into details of actual things, while others like AI or crypto will probably naturally stay a bit at the surface, as they are more intended to give an overview. I think they shouldn't be compared therefore. I think the robotics class is a bit behind of it's possibilities compared to PGM or ML, considering that this is definitely not an overview anymore.

I can live pretty well without innovations in privacy intrusion systems. ;-) But I'm looking forward to their innovations in deleting or hiding interconnected data. That's still a huge problem, I'm wondering what they 'innovated' to delete my G+ account while not becoming totally inconsistent on related pages of people following me etc. (I intentionally deleted it yesterday)

Having done the AI class last year, I have to say that I'm really positively surprised how much they apparently learned from the results of that class. Sebastian's style is way better now, with those digital scribbles and the combined programming step by step exercises for particle filters. That was exactly the stuff that threw me off sometimes at AI class (and I bet quite a few of others).
I love how the points 'Gatekeeper' and 'All-new features for China' so naturally are presented side-by-side. Why would anyone want to run an unsafe program like a tor client ? Ask your local gatekeeper.
Just a short note - vertical gutter should be either adjustable as well or simply the same as horizontal.
Maybe I'm wrong, but doesn't entropy in an information source mean there's _more_ information rather than less ?
