I only found this post because I decided to check HN after getting HTTP 500 errors pulling some repos.
People don't hate them for trying new things, they hate them for making the new things the only option.
That said ... putting part of your soul into machine format so you can put it on on the big shared machine using your personal machine and expecting that only other really truly quintessentially proper personal machines receive it and those soulless other machines don't ... is strange.
That's a mischaracterization of most people want. When I put out a bowl of candy for Halloween I'm fine with EVERYONE taking some candy. But these companies are the equivalent of the asshole that dumps the whole bowl into their bag.

People should have stopped using that extension nearly a decade ago after being sold to an advertising company.

Not only that, but zig makes linking against old glibc versions easy. For example, to make an x86_64 linux build linked against glibc 2.9 when using zig build all you have to do is pass:
-Dtarget=x86_64-linux-gnu.2.9This is probably going to be Reddit's Digg moment for me. The sad thing is there isn't really a suitable replacement available. HN is the closest experience to early Reddit and I wouldn't be surprised if the site's traffic ramps up noticeably over the next couple months.

It should be noted that this isn't an exaggeration. For a long time they actually had in the sidebar on lemmy.ml that it was the main Marxist instance. I'd link an archive but the site's design makes every one I can find pull the new info.
This may be a weird recommendation but the steam deck may be something to consider if your docks have a usb c connector.
It's nearly as powerful as my desktop, and I can't find any laptops/portaPCs with similar specs at that pricepoint.
They probably use the user's social graph. Taking all those precautions won't help if the new account just rejoins the same servers and talks to the same people as the banned account.

I believe that's why you think that. I feel that reddit started to go downhill after 2011, which was 10 years ago. So if that's when you joined you wouldn't have experienced what it was like before to feel that way.
It's because SMS works without data.
I doubt that most of the people that complain about SMS live in rural areas. It seems to be more of a US thing. The country is so large that unless you live in a city you just won't be able to get data reliably. This leaves SMS as the only form of phone communication that isn't a voice call.
Kallithea[0] has support for both. You might want to test it out and see if it's a good fit for your setup. I enjoyed working with it when when I used it.
