i had such a hard time learning traefik and transitioning to V2. you don't need to simulate everything in a big monolith and with all the complexity of everybody in it, that does not scale well.

You only need to simulate the perspective of you and what you can see, observe and the interactions you make right now.

minio is good but you really need fast disks. They also really don't like, when you want to change the size of your cluster setup. No plan to add cache disks, they just say use faster disks. I have it running, goes smoothly but not really user friendly to optimize

Problem is that management is usually not skilled enough (or just greedy for bonus money short term) to understand what is happening. Cloud is good if you are tiny or need to scale really fast if you are growing and then move out of it. For the bigger companies it can be a good strategy to scale out, but for that you only need IAAS and no fancy cloud vendor lock-in products. you will always be cheaper if you build it on your own, if your usecase is heavy load.

you might be cheaper with colocation instead of building your own datacenter but most enterprises still have a need for their own anyway.

tl:dr operating yourself around 6-10k€/year fixed price for hosting the 500TB. If cloudflare offers to store that and operate it for free this is a no brainer for cloudfare R2, if the 32k migration is really a one time only cost.

i personally would invest in a solution which decreases or at least flattens the cost, when the storage needs increase, instead of the current linear curve. Biggest problem in "cloud" and biggest win in hosting yourself.

if you want to do it yourself i would probably think about something like this:

500TB with 20tb hdd's are around 28 disks needed. This will cost between 15-20.000€ per server(4U with sata/sas controller and 36-40 disk chassis)

with no raid and high availability you will need 2 locations and 2 servers in a colocated setup. i would say colo will cost you 500-1000€ a month

Then you would use the cloudflare cdn with their OSS offering and be done with it.

initial cost 40k operational cost + colo = around 6-12k/year i would assume, if you have people nearby to do maintenance.

it really feels like, they should have been given just pure venture capital and a lot more time and test hardware in small batches. And then with enough knowledge pick real good hardware and then deliver a kick ass linux phone. The processor is about 6 years old, a lot will not be working at this time, i still support the idea of a linux phone, i really hope it gets better in the next few years. this android, ios duopoly really sucks ass

to be fair, you can select to install any "basic packages" but it is all or nothing

so i have to use a menu, to select a dozen things to setup a single system, with the non changeable defaults, they will select for me. (why would i install node, or dos2unix or midnight commander?) and they install as default ruby, which most of use don't use at all so giving us bloat for not much function.

This feels like a tool for users switching from windows to linux, to be able to flatten the learning curve. For any user that is a little bit familiar with linux, this i a major downgrade to any other toolset IMO.

- run shellcheck and fix the issues and warnings

- publish tags, so people can select versions

- add customization to the installed packages

- actually document how to use the parameters, the scripts offer, instead of just not doing that

- add an uninstall script!

- add a silent command (run with parameters to automate the menu selects, why would i want to do this manually or remember what i selected on every machine?)
