Its expensive out there. I used to judge people for not being able to stand on their own but now my mindset is if someone is working 40+ hours a week and sticking to a reasonable budget and not driving a new car then not sure what else we can ask them to do.

Most of these people that are getting help aren't saving for retirement either so its just a long game of desperation. Easy to say get a better job but not everyone has the skills or mental acuity to do that. With that said there are aboslutely a lot of people that have no concept of budgeting and are their own worst enemy

Sure except none of them are playing minecraft so its not really the same thing.

Me siting down and explaining how government or corp. issued age verification is bad is really not going to make him feel better about sitting alone in his room night after night while all of his friends are online having a good time.

Thats obviously fine to do but it is very much going to have consequences for some kids. My kids spend hours a week playing roblox with their IRL friends. 10 - 15 kids on a group call on speaker phone all logged into the same code laughing and yelling for a couple hours a night. If I was to suddenly tell them that they can't play those games with their friends it would have very real effects on their social life. My kids spend a ton of time outside with friends but to ignore that they also spend time gaming with them is not an option.

Reading through these threads is cursed. This site supposedly attracts the brightest of us but its all just a bunch of people ignoring the article and screaming that Musk is evil so everything he does must be ignored and villified.

Just really dissapointing hysteria on display here.

All of them do, there are humans in the loop. Speak to Claude about it, it will freely admit to a leftward bias due to human interaction and intentional training bias.

its not strange. Books represent knowledge and ideas. Ways of thinking. An attempt to ban a book is an attempt to restrict freedom of thought and the exchange of ideas. It has a historical context and a ban is generally considered on a societal level, not building specific. Some books are not allowed in school buildings, they are not banned.

Banning books for example has a very different context than banning cocaine. Cocaine use in the United States is banned, Hustler magazine is not. I can swing by the store tomorrow and pick one up legally, I can't get cocaine legally.

Restricting Hustler from a school full of kids is not banning it. Thus the quirk.

If I don't allow Green Eggs and Ham in my house does it belong in a museam of banned books?

I have never worked there and I am likely very unqualified to ever work there and Zuck has more money than I could dream of so take my comment with that in mind.

Meta sounds like a cluster-F of a place to work. Massive reorgs around wild ideas like the metaverse and everything Ai all the time. Employees terrified of being fired. Incentivizing token spending and then cutting it off. While the overall company may be fine, the dev department sounds rudderless and absolutely miserable.

I cant even ask it to review my vitamin stack without it flagging it and switching to OPUS. It is insanely nerfed and limited. Its so bad that its made me realize that unless one goes open source the frontier labs will gatekeep everything. Determine who can use it and future versions for biology, cyber security, any number of realms. The winners and losers of the future are actively being chosen as we speak. I'm going to install open source models this weekend for the first time as a desperate attempt to escape the permanent underclass.

There are no fixes via social engineering or laws. Asia and Africa are coming up, they are not going to sacrifice their econonomies becuase the western world which is already established has some people saying hang on, we've got ours, you need to wait. They are going to be building massive coal plants and burning barrels of oil. So Bob in France not turning on his AC is not going to make any difference.

We will fix it later, I'm not worried about it becuase there is nothing to be done about it. Worrying and panicking about it does no one any good.

Technology marches forward.

The planet is fine friend. The cool thing about the relentless march of technology is that we will eventually fix anything we break along the way. There is no limit to what we can achieve. There is certainly nothing you can do about it so go outside, lie by the pool or the ocean, enjoy life.

I could not imagine living with such a self hating attitude. Every day must be torture to wake up to. Why choose to live with this view of the world, I just don't get it. Life is beautiful. Children are incredible. I hope you break out of your self inflicted prison and truly embrace what the universe has given us.

This is not surprising to me. I use Ai for a lot of health / chemical augmentation style questions and plans. Claude is hesitant but will give me the answers but will always warn about consequences and to speak to a doctor and how I'm in danger.

ChatGPT will sometimes completely refuse to answer.

Grok is essentially "lets fucking go!!!!"

I’ve been isolated via work from home for so long I don’t even see people who aren’t my wife and kids as real anymore. When I interact with them it’s like they are just npc’s in a game. They vanish as soon as they are out of sight to preserve system resources. Wife will start talking to me about someone Ive met 5 times before and I have no idea who she’s talking about.

I literally don’t know anyone outside of my household and I’m completely fine with it. It’s just how things are now.

I have the gym and that’s enough

I’ve worked remotely for about 8 years now. I currently have zero IRL friends and if not for my wife and kids I would go months without speaking to another person. For the last 4 years I didn’t even have standups, I could go weeks without speaking to anyone at work besides the occasional teams message. I have daily standups now and they are mentally exhausting.

The only time I leave the house is gym, to take the kids somewhere, grocery shopping or similar. I have forgotten how to even pretend to care when people speak to me, they are all npcs to me. I don’t remember anyone’s name. To be clear this is a personal flaw due to my isolation, not anything to do with them.

It’s been like this for so long that I have no desire to change, it’s simply the way things are now. When I take the kids to sports my wife asks if I interacted with the other parents and Im not sure why or even how I would do that.

I have the gym though which I love, headphones on, music up and grind, alone in the crowd.

My theory is different. Decades of officials telling people that the world was overpopulated. That global warming was going to kill us all and any children born would be subjected to horrific conditions.

Well mission accomplished.

I think this limitation goes away as long as your code is modular. If the Ai has to read the entire code base each time, sure but if everything is designed well then it only needs to deal with a limited set of code each time and it excels at that.
