I'd recommend AsciiDoctor. It provides a syntax that's very markdown-like. Store your book as src in Git somewhere and move seamlessly between Fedora and your Mac. There's a nice VSCode AsciiDoctor plugin and an extremely helpful community. And it outputs PDF, DocBook, epub, and HTML.

Don't know the details of Google's setup, but they're creating a screencast with a tablet. There are several ways to do that depending on your hardware, but if you search for 'creating screencast with tablet' you'll find several examples.

Wow, did this post ever land at an opportune time for me. I just started writing a 'first' blog post about my Hugo static site generator setup and stopped half way through with the thought, "why would anyone care about this, it's trivial and almost condescending to tell people how to set up Hugo".

It's interesting how paralysed by <insert reason here> most people really are when it comes to pursuing whatever it is they want to pursue. And I count myself within that group; for now.

I love this. It describes a reality that I think exists into the present day. Regardless of our passions, real life is always there, filling ashtrays and picture frames whether you want it to or not.

None of those things you list are credit based. A credit rating is determined by your ability to repay debts, such as credit cards, mortgages, etc. If you never have those, how can you have a credit rating.

I have to admit I'm sceptical. An engineer and a pharmacist with a combined income of $85000 in 2006 seems extremely improbable. I know pharmacists that graduated in 1995 and walked into 100K+ jobs immediately. The low paid engineer I get ;). And how'd they pay off the 48K in student debt?
