Finally! We need more of this. It did happen sometimes in the past, but not nearly as often as it should.

I wish Apple would update there built in TTS model (on Mac). In this day and age, it's quality is terrible.

I'm sure it depends on demographic/country etc, but I've lived in Apartments where everyone was considerate, no loud neighbours, no smokers. Everyone just peacefully co-existed. (I've also experienced the opposite, and unfortunately, it is more common.)

I mostly use a computer because you can get a better idea what is a good deal, and fits in my budget. If I had stacks of cash, I could easily see myself booking everything via my phone.

But I'm too much of a penny pincher..

But I do often only pre-book the first night/s accom, then book the rest as I travel and know where I will be when. But I do travel with my laptop, and often will park up somewhere and hotspot it, to find that days accom. (+ I get cash back deals on computer)

I took the train from Copenhagen to Stockholm a few years back. I remember getting on the train and then all of a sudden we were boarding a boat, and got kicked out of the train while they transited the across the ocean.

I really liked it, was a cool experience, and an easy way to get on a boat. IDK if it's still like this. I hope it is.

I had checked google maps before the trip and saw a bridge so figured the train would go over that, but looks like it's car only bridge. Was a pleasant surprise.

If you're a Mac person, 100% try out iina if you haven't yet. Kinda like VLC, but way more Mac like.

I'd have so many of these weird issues on Android (pixel), is why I switched to iPhone a few years back, it's been a much smoother ride ever since. iPhone isn't perfect, but it's way more "just works" then android was for me.

Also, I have the iPhone 15 Pro (iOS 26.0.1), never had the black screen on camera open yet. That's the kinda thing I'd get on Android.

I only have 2 USB-C ports, and most of the time I have nothing plugged in (but power). Sometimes ethernet USB-C when moving large files.

Yeah, the things that AppleScript can do is so crazy. I've fully automated keeping 1 tab in Chrome logged into a website that insists on logging me out every hour or something. (not banking or anything)

I get the comment about Docker. Not being able to share memory with docker makes it a pain to use to run things alongside mac, unless you have mountains of ram.

Yeah, that is my understanding too. Usually the inside the plant the radiation is lower than many other industrial places too. But my concern is when things go wrong (like flooding in Japan) the radius of which it can effect can be quite large and take a long time to recover.

In theory I wouldn't mind living next to nuclear. I say in theory, because we've seen too many times when someone cuts corners, or has deadlines or poorly trained staff on site, that when things go wrong, they can sometimes go very very wrong.

You could do this with the free tier. It's fairly generous.

Sorry, thought someone else would chime in. But I've known people who need to sit in the same place. Doesn't need to be the "best" spot, just the same spot. Not all autistic people are like that.

From my personal experience most can be flexible, they may have a preference (stronger than "normal" people) to xyz spot, but will sit elsewhere if it's already taken.

Count yourself lucky. It's no fun on the autism train. Everyone has there issues, and I can only comment on my own experience, but it's thus far not been great.

Most of what you'd do is the last thing I'd want to do (I have autism). You don't say if you have autism or not, but going by what you just said I would guess not.

I like the bit about the rattling hvac or whatever. Years ago before I knew I was on the spectrum, the A/C system in the office I worked at was noisy (to me), and barely worked in the summer. Nobody seemed to notice or care.

The noise was distracting to me so to complained, after a long while they eventually got someone in... but they just put in a really noisy fan in the office close'ish to our desk. They didn't fix it the extra fan did nothing, it couldn't pull more air then it was given.. obv.. so then I had even more noise and the A/C system still didn't work.

I gave up trying to get it improved, and worked with headphones most of the time. No one else finds it an issue.

At the end of the day when staying late and the A/C systems turns off, I can feel a huge load lifted of my shoulders, and I can think much clearer.

Also the lights are horrible, if I'm working alone in the weekend I'll leave them off, it's so much nicer, less harsh. But again I seem the only one who noticed and is affected by it.

I eventually got so burnt out, crashed and quit... have been unemployed for... many many years now. Hard to say why I couldn't another job. I think maybe PTSD of my (first) and last experience, along with intense anxiety to just start. (interviewing is a painful experience, not only do I have to answer and ask questions, but need to fake eye contact, make small talk etc, all to get a job I'll probably have to bail out of.

I've tried to do some self-employed stuff, but nothing has given much income. (living with parents, I feel terrible about it, but no idea how to escape my living hell)

Vuescan is terrible. SilverFast has better defaults. But nothing beats the orig Nikon scan software when using ICE. It does a great job of removing dust, fingerprints etc Even when you zoom in. VS what iSRD does in SilverFast, which if you zoom in and compare the 2. iSRD kinda smooches/blurs the infrared defects whereas Nikon Scan clones the surrounding parts, which usually looks very good when zooming in.

Both Silverfast and Nikon Scan methods look great when zoomed out. I never tried Vuescan's infrared option. I just felt the positive colors it produced looks wrong/"dead".

How did you get the 49bit and ICE data separately? Did you double scan everything?

I'm scanning my parents photos at the moment.

There are also services out that will solve any CAPTCHA for you at a very small cost to you. And an AI company will get steep discounts with the volumes of traffic they do.

There are some browser extensions for it too, like NopeCHA, it works 99% of the time and saves me the hassle of doing them.

Any site using CAPTCHA's today is really only hurting there real customers and low hanging fruit.

Of course this assumes they can't solve the capture themselves, with ai, which often they can.

In NZ we have aliceinvideoland.co.nz which overnights you x DVDs. They have a pretty extensive library and a lot of lesser known and local content.

I used them for a few years, they are great and I'm happy to see they're still around.

This is kinda what netflix was for many peak for a brief moment in time. It wasn't perfect, but it was pretty great, it had most of what you wanted to see. Then EVERY studio wanted their own meh streaming system, and fragmented the system again.
