I just want to say: this looks super interesting as a project. Following :)

personally, I’ve had some great experiences with my Ooni/Uuni ovens over the past 6 years or so. It’s a great small business story too.

Currently on a Koda-16 which gets up to 900f in about 20 mins, yet is so well insulated - 45 minutes later there’s still snow sitting on top of it. A pizza usually takes about 90-120 seconds for me.

The thermal mass is important - the pizza stone at the bottom on this model is thicker than my last one, and while I could cook several pizzas, the ones in the middle took longer because I didn’t let the stone heat up again after the last pizza. Noticeable difference if there was no “rest time” between pizzas. Some friends have tried “metal pizza stones” which also retain heat really well (like 1/4” steel plate type of thing) apparently works well in hone ovens.

I use mine also to sear sous vide steaks. Works out fantastic.

Just curious - why not use Matternost as a backup? (disclosure: I work at Mattermost, but really just want to know what you think)

I’ve advocated for an idea where Mattermost is to be used as a “bunker” where it is hosted on a raspberry Pi (or somewhere else) and acts as a digital bunker if your critical infrastructure (slack, teams, exchange?) is compromised somehow.

I agree - like only show a persons face AFTER you’ve connected somehow (I agree we’re hardwired to recognize faces - but I don’t want to try to recognize all the people as I’m browsing etc. - but when they become part of my Rolodex, then I wanna recognize their faces)

I’m so glad to read the other comments here - some new reading and watching material. The best part of this story for me is that I had watched Connections with my brother so long ago, I simply assumed James Burke was dead for a while now. I’m really pleasantly surprised he’s still kicking around!

Mattermost does, and just raised about $70m to do it well. ING is on their website. They have e-discovery tools and it's all hosted on your own cloud/servers.

Sadly, very recently a friend of mine's therapist suggested he overcome his fear of flying and having less control.

Granted it is a small plane, but it crashed. Of my friends, 1 is paralysed and the other is dead. The pilot is dead too.

Toronto has grown up a lot in the pst few years. The canadian dollar is about 20% less than USD, so VC dollars go further - and while competitive, hiring engineers is nothing like the bay. That said, there is a shallow pool of senior SaaS startup folks in Toronto compared to SF or New York.

In California - it's the Law. You need to provide picture ID before the property management company can you show you around the property. At least that's what the little sign in each leasing office I've visited said.... (????)

This may work for a young, single person. I'm a Toronto native but I work remotely for a Toronto-based company after moving to SF several years ago. After having a kid, SF Bay Area becomes pretty unbearable - I've lived in the mission, Redwood City and Burlingame over the years - education expenses, commuting times and rent all add up. Even with my wife being a successful tech sales person and my decent but non-exceptional salary.

We moved to Lake Tahoe recently and it's been really nice - remote working is the best of both worlds. If you're a good engineer and can deal with working remote - it can be a great decision. Regular trips back to Toronto for work are a bonus - I get to see my family regularly.

I'm sure Waterlooser has become cooler since I last visited 15 years ago, but I suspect it's still not really comparable to downtown Toronto for a young single person. Maybe better for a family. But that wasn't the salary/living situation being compared.

Ah, the price of Running Ubuntu/OSX/Windows....it always bites you in the ass.

This is like the B2B SaaS marketspace - it's almost taken for granted that your app integrates with Salesforce. People are surprised if it isn't.

However, anyone who runs, Microsoft CRM, SugarCRM, Netsuite, etc. - are all used to hearing "Sorry, we don't integrate with X". I'd say ubuntu falls into a similar category....
