Just the title alone shows how closed minded you are. I can see uses for this type of machine in many situation.

What we call the internet today was build on these 'book' printing machines. Bell Labs had several of them with people to run them to print out design specs just for example.

If you think it's a bad idea, it really shows how little business experience you have not only in business but in the world itself.

No matter how digital and handy things become, there is no replacement for paper. There are just some situations that an tablet or notebook can't replace.

What's disappointing is they didn't notify users.

I am just a developer though. I have friends in other industries that feel the same way.. I just figured I'd put it out there as I am curious how many people take dogs to work.

I've tried to talk with them and sadly it just didn't work. I am kind of disappointed as I got different answers more than a few times. I even asked if I could call someone there and talk to them.. they didn't even bother replying to the email.

Our list isn't even a prelaunch, just the newsletter signup on the right side of our site (thepaws.com - shameless plug..). It's just new customers signing up. But you're right it does make for very dirty lists. After the 1st send the list got cleaned up so hopefully moving forward it won't be as dirty, unless we hit a huge growth spurt again, and I wouldn't mind that!

What if someone wanted to offer a physical product to HN community as a thank you? Would that be appropriate?

I don't see why not. I use a Lenovo x201 as my main machine with zero issues.

Beanstalk Hosted SVN/GIT has deployment tools. I haven't used them as I do my pulls manually.

This is a great list. I do write web apps and am working on my 1st "startup" so this will be great.

I would like to expand this, how would one who is opening an online store for example get coverage besides the normal press? I mean yes it is a startup but not, we make everything ourselves, so it's not reselling someone else's stuff, but at the same time doesn't fit the startup mold.

Yea.. That is the solution sometimes.. but on a fresh install it's total garbage. I understand what they are trying to do, and it's great, but the learning curve is stupid retarded in my opinion. And without a coupon system in the free version it's worthless. But that's besides the point.

I would agree the list on the right side is just too long. Maybe tweak the homepage design a bit to scream book keeping software.

I also noticed you didn't mention conversion rate.. traffic is great but if you aren't converting what's the use? Maybe promoting signup might help too and just get more conversions out of your current traffic. Also Signal vs Noise from 37signals has some cool articles on homepage design vs conversion.

My main income is from ecommerce.. if you had an API with Mageno, CREloaded, OSCommerce, ZenCart.. sure some of those might be out dated and old. but they have a heavy user base.. once integrated use that angle to get free traffic as well.
