This is similar to how I’ve transitioned to learning new programming languages. I used to build stuff to learn. However, with AI assisted coding I don’t have those organic moments I’m stuck and need to search online for the answer.

My learning process now uses Claude Code to serve as a tutor that creates bite sized lessons writing parts I want to re-review, found confusing, what lessons were reviewed and what is next into a long lived CLUADE.md file.

Interesting to see models on the list at 8/10 of exposure

The weight is an issue for me at 189g. I've been looking for something compact, light weight, secure with a decent OS for 2 years without luck.

Iphone air is tempting at 165g if the screen was smaller. Unihertz Titan 2 Elite may hit the sweet spot if the weight is kept low.

I’ve noticed Claude Codes sandbox mode works with MCPs. With CLIs I’ve rain into permission issues. CLIs also need reminding about whats available unless references are baked the context window.

This weekend I was trying to figure out how I can use my smart meter’s electricity data. I had a poke around MQTT explorer and realized I could see personal data points out in the open without encryption across a plethora of devices.

I would have liked to see statistics on study session length eg. average duration. Also how long you typically spend creating per card and how many you created this year.

That information would help us all better assess whether the time spent on a spaced repetition flashcard system is justified

I’ve done something similar recently, using speaker diarization to handle situations where two or more people share a laptop on a recorded call.

Ultimately, I chose a cloud-based GPU setup, as the highest-performing diarization models required a GPU to process properly. Happy to share more if you’re going that route.

A few months ago I had to work around a problem like this and the best out there was WhisperX. Not sure about transformer.js support.

There’s something that’s embittered me about the subscription model and projects made purely for greed. I particularly enjoy supporting projects fiscally which that are passion projects that they could probably charge more for.

And yeah I have the same gripes around the writing experience. I prefer Vim so I've been looking into ways I can use my notes as local markdown which sync on save. Of course, keeping the Directus editor for my mobile device edits.

This is exactly the type of thing I want to inspire others to tinker with! Some of the readers feel there's a single optimal solution. Though I'm confident that there's room for a plethora of PKMS solutions

Open-source code has been known to have back doors and versions with security vulnerabilities.

I would never use AI code gen I don't understand fully and typically made amendments to get what I need the tooling to do. So yes I prefer personal simple scripts I maintain and understand 100% : )

Also Obsidian asks for permissions to read files in all of the device on Android.

Thanks for sharing this is an understated point from the article as I was fiddling with Evernote, Notion then Obsidian more than I would like to admit. With this I certainly fiddle but I create what I need and get in and out of my notes.

If people find that rhythm and flow with their own PKMS - don't switch for the next shiny thing!

This too is a solid choice particularly with Github actions for free cron jobs for instance

Agreed. Particularly with running your notes through a text embedded model you can use semantic similarity and no longer need to manually link notes! This is something I'm excited to add in to my PKMS at some point.
