As a ux designer, I like this, especially as it solves the problem of dragging mobile elements below the fold or off the visible screen view.
One suggestion I'd love to try out- let the user select multiple elements at once, and reorder the selected elements in the hovering state using conventional drag and drop mechanics. This might add complexity or might be a much more convenient way to deal with lists!
Or, dragging the element selected should allow a user to manually ‘place’ the item on screen.
I wouldn’t use this on desktop, though! Mice typically allow you to scroll and drag pretty easily.
It looks like the camera lenses are still raised above the bump. Wobbles look like they remain!

To incentivize artists to create and distribute art. The way we conceive of art as an act of embodied novelty differentiates it from commodities which aim for predictable consistency. Lack of IP protection in our culture has made it impossible for 99.9% of artists to thrive economically. The US has chosen relative cultural poverty compared to other cultures that find non-market mechanisms to support artists.
As an artist starting out in the beginning of my career, I made a rationalized choice to never post my work online - in retrospect this seems to have been the right choice. My work is no AI’s whetstone.

Yes, but the basics of computing (text input, pointing, selecting) haven't been worked out for the new paradigm. Like you point out, how information superiority and affordance work even in standalone applications hasn't really been solved. Without tactile touch components, it's very hard to interact with spatial data (one of the reasons CAD is so hard to learn).
I'd suggest that we'll need another 'mother of all demos' that solve some of these HCI problems, not just the fit and finish upgrade that Apple typically offers.
Physics is working against everyone here, it’s just too hard to get a bright, sharp screen in the form factor, weight & style that can literally appeal to everyone. The processing power to obtain world lock is not trivial either.
In contrast, a watch is just a scaled down phone with skin sensors. Most of the building blocks already exist.
Sociology is another blocker. Our species has evolved to read each other’s eyes to identify attention and emotion. As soon as you block the eyes with a pair of darkened screens, you lose that ability to directly connect human to human in person. Sure there are individual used cases like biking they could be compelling, but they are niche applications.
My mother did this when her cancer got too bad. She was strong willed but in end, some of her last words were asking me to give her an OD of the morphine in her hospice kit.
If you go through hospice with someone please discuss the options before the end. I wish i had asked her for her wishes beforehand because when she was weak it was hard to know how lucid she was, and the grief clouds your judgement.

Be careful what you wish for. AI capable of writing weird garbage nonsense content that looks truthful is coming down the pipeline, with a reward function built in for user engagement. In a world of effortless surreal content, authoritatively truthful answer will become more valuable. We're going to need encyclopedias again!

Rhinoceros is $800 and used for product design, shipbuilding and architecture. We’re currently getting permits and structural done on our family home with drawings created with it. It also comes with a parametric solver system, grasshopper.

With the size of Russia's SLBM stockpile, this doesn't seem to change the deterrence equation, according to the Wikipedia article.
It seems like this allows more orgs within Russian military industrial complex to grab development money. It probably reduces their perceived need to pay for the manned submarine leg of the nuclear tripod in the upcoming decades.
This is such a helpful post, but it also doesn't factor in the cost of R&D to make a new or unusual product. For example, I spent years figuring out how to make a specific kind of porcelain planter for succulents that would be self watering. Nothing else exists like it on the market, and customers like it but there's a ceiling to how high I can price. Now I have a lot of sunk costs that I'll probably never recoup on sales. Also selling isn't trivial in terms of cost - figuring out packaging and shipping loss rate can be a double digit portion of sales for fragile handmade goods.
Of course this is on me as a designer and maker - it's a labor of love - but it keeps my work from becoming a serious business that I might try to go out and count on for income.

I'd also add that the value of being able to work in-person is not zero - some roles can go fully remote, but things like user research are much more difficult to conduct remotely (particularly with hardware).
Finally, the reason the Bay Area / NYC cost the most are because they attract on the whole, highly qualified talent. It's not unexpected that the salary scales would be where the senior, high performing talent is implicitly located.
Challenges to keep devices affordable aside ($3.65 is a lot for a BOM add on), Radar is one of the first non-human senses I’ve had to design for. From an ML perspective it offers significant advantages over static images, being independent from ambient lighting, and sample rates are higher than low cost cameras without ISO noise.
Here in Oakland we have Cafe Ohlone (https://www.makamham.com/cafeohlone) which has been featured in the New York Times and I can personally attest creates a Michelin-worthy dining experience. On the fusion side, Wahpepah's Kitchen (https://wahpepahskitchen.com/seasonal-restaurant-menu) in Fruitvale offers blue corn waffles, sweet potato tostadas and bison meatballs. I haven't been to it yet but it's on my shortlist.
There's a good deal of interest in reviving first people's cuisine and culture. A thoughtful tour of a Lego minifig as sliced by a CT scanner. This is kind of the reverse of 3D printing - rather than build something layer by layer, the assembly is scanned and visualized in slices, allowing a peek into the way parts mate. Differences in density can be automatically color coded - in this case the dye of the figurine provides a convenient separation between differently-colored parts.
I never knew that the hands of minifigs were ribbed to create a rotating press fit!

This article is a high effort examination into whether quantitative easing in the U.S. has contributed to the current division of income between different socioeconomic classes. The author finds that larger macro forces including fiscal policies (healthcare, shifting of taxation to payroll taxes, militarization, deindustrialization) are larger culprits but that QE may also contribute as an accelerant by reducing the wealth-destroying effects of the normal business cycle.
I appreciate the author’s perspective as an engineer. The article provides counter examples (such as other economies that have used QE to a greater degree) and includes a historical narrative that helped me to contextualize the extent and reasons for wealth concentration in the US.
Any economists or other subject matter expert’s have a different take?

I wish that manufacturer's had to announce supported software lifetime of a product, that you could compare and contrast on a general spec sheet, like energy efficiency.
I also wish that device manufacturers should offer a marginal or low-cost software update service on a yearly subscription fee to ensure the longest lifespan out of a device. Particularly in the case of Sonos, I would be happy to shell out a few bucks a year to keep my older speakers up to date, maybe give us access to Airplay 2 or other standards. How many iPhone camera tricks used to sell the latest model are just computational at this point?
I feel like adding a long tail support subscription would really help the economics for B2C device manufacturing while moving us away from the mentality of continuously junking our silicon.
When I was there, there was a slack channel rebroadcasting the webcam feed providing desktop & mobile notifications. Based on the quality of the food in the feed, you could conjecture that funders were visiting for a meal, or when director-level staff meetings were occuring.
Placencia Airport in Belize (PLJ) terminates exactly at a road. The short runway takes up the entire width of the isthmus it occupies, so the road takes a dog-leg to pass it. There's a single arm gate on each road to stop traffic during takeoffs and landings.

I worked at a startup that considered liquid lenses from a French outfit for optical applications back in the early 2010s. Problems with the technology include reliability (not great having fluid near electrical components), repeatability, and focus time. It's also hard to expect that the lens can easily 'snap' to focus, since there will be some play in the polymer / motor drivetrain. Mammalian eyes require a complex biological support system to keep them functional over years and decades. An unfortunate aspect of polymers (like the skin of this lens) is that they do not maintain flexibility in the long term.
Perhaps there's been a leap in the technology, but I'd avoid the first generation if possible, like I do with all newly implemented tech, since I consider the camera a critical function of my smartphone.

You are correct in that the justice department's investigation was flawed, it did not force Trump to answer questions under oath. However, we have Trump's own words: "Russia, if you're listening, I hope you find Hillary's emails."
The Justice Dept spent millions thoroughly investigaing that claim and it turned out to be all lies.
The Mueller investigation paid for itself in civil forfeiture ($42-46m) after convicting Paul Manafort, Trump's campaign manager of tax fraud, wire fraud and other financial crimes and got convictions of ten defendants. The only reason they did not indict Trump was in deference to a memo that the Justice department cannot indict a sitting president.
I've been donating to this organization for several years. For the amount of money they raise, they seem different from other conservation-focused charities in working with people on the ground to find means of income that drive conservation economically. It's a thoughtful model that isn't just helicoptering money in (like direct giving), but actually getting involved with communities and raising their standard of living.
There's a great episode on ReplyAll podcast[0] about the methods for bypassing 2FA to snag accounts. Was the 2FA endpoint a SMS cell number? In that case, it's probable the thief fraudulently impersonated the victim to the cell service provider and phished the 2FA code. Sadly, the cell providers are the weakest link in that particular chain (probably much weaker than Facebook's security).
I also wouldn't put it past someone to guess a password or have reused a password with another service that has been hacked. Humans are terrible at password hygene.
