Meh, so Google knows your wifi password. So what? You think US intelligence will be calling up Google for that? Those protocols were backdoored before the first design went on a whiteboard. And they know your location? So what? You’ve been able to triangulate any cell phone within meters from day 1. It’s just how the cell towers function, no getting around that. Terrorists, smart drug dealers and murderers already know to leave the phone behind. Google wants to sell you stuff you don’t need. It’s a business, that’s their goal.

No that’s a very poor cop out. They shouldn’t criticize something they haven’t experienced, it’s a lack of integrity.

But you’re saving a soldier, in an active warzone. You can’t pretend to be naive and say maybe they’re going to have a change of heart and become a flower farmer. By saving that life, you’re executing the future victims of that killer/soldier. That you don’t actually pull the trigger on those victims is neither here nor there.

Yea, I have. But look designing something often comes from the heart. You see a need and dream of filling it as a foothold for the next person in their experience. It’s a conquest, for others. But someone that designs a new screwdriver, with a trillion already made, is in a different place. You can extrapolate the world view from what people create, or aspire to.

The problem has a massive scale and is more likely IMO to negatively affect a young persons experience than global warming, war, race and the phobias. Trouble is the human mind needs something to cling to. It simply wasn’t meant to challenge the mysteries of existence and the universe, and to accept death. So we fall into the delusion pit.

There should be laws against these 'look at my clever wiz kid' articles. It's not that far off from beauty pageants and equally sick and pretentious. I remember just last week here in Berkeley seeing a young teenager playing Beethoven's 9th on an electric keyboard, perfectly. He was playing on the street and had all of $10 in change in his bowl. The look of misery on his face as his fingers effortlessly worked out the melody was astounding. He looked like a caged animal, living out his parent's dream in captivity. $50 says he blows his brains out by his thirties. This is abuse plain and simple.

It’s amazing the cheap cop outs people settle for faced with failure at the most superficial level. The anxiety and fear of failure ties them up and eventually they give in having earned nothing from toiling and suffering as much or more than their successful peers. Why would you buy a product from a company you hate?

You don’t have a clue what you’re talking about. The M1 can’t be compared to an Intel system, its more performant and power efficient and fabbed at a lower process node. And the memory is packaged differently than with an Intel system. But if you hate Apple so much I think you deserve an Intel system.

My startup is working on solutions to crop failure scenarios such as from a nuclear war. Unfortunately we calculate there are probable outcomes where the only reasonable course of action is for one selected group to actually consume parts of the population in order to survive a nuclear winter. And so we’re building an automated system to take a newly deceased human being and create as many wholesome and nutritious meals from the remains as possible, in a dignified manner. We’re also trying to figure out how the consumption could play out in an orderly fashion where the old and those with non communicable diseases (but are never the less dependent at a time where the burden is too great for society), can be respectfully consumed first, and then in order of value to a future society, with those scoring least being respectfully consumed first, and so on.

We are envisioning a type of sleeping capsule with a cover that seals the user from the elements and fallout materials, providing clean air, heat and water. These could be deployed quickly. As the starvation continues the capsules would, every other night, fairly, amongst those of an equal social value, reduce the oxygen during sleep for a painless and stress free passing, and then alert others in the prospect to convert the remains into new rations.

It’s out there, but we’re serious. Based on reasonable logic in a bad situation. Important, but nobody seems to care. When 5 billion people have nothing left to eat then they’ll care.

It would be pretty difficult to trace a silent, transparent, palm sized micro drone, hopping over the ocean for months in daily solar recharge cycles from San Francisco to Pyongyang. You could even make it out of a flammable polymer to incinerate when exhausted of ammunition. I think it's highly feasible. Imagine going back to the 1920's and discussing the technicalities of the ICBMs of the 60's. You'd be laughed out of the bar and into the asylum. But commonly accepted today. And still not feared for a fraction of its potential. But drones are an order of magnitude more dangerous, because they can be anonymous.

When the types of financial incentives an arms race provides become available, r&d will make the impossible solid reality.

It can selectively kill in a crowd. And no recoil, better accuracy during rapid fire.

Compressed air requires a canister of fluid that requires weight. With a rail gun, much of the weight is in the needles, which could be very thin indeed. When it's out of ammunition, it can do the suicide run perhaps. But the key is the unit doesn't need to carry all the energy required to dispense the projectiles on launch. Can feed off solar or power lines half way through its lot and therefore extend range or needle load.

In fact if you had a rechargeable system the drone could conceivably, albeit slowly, travel halfway around the globe, assuming it can extend its solar panels and float on the ocean.

I also expect they'll be totally silent and made of transparent material.
