So far SDD (Spec Driven Development) with openspec hit the right balance for me, the Workflow is not too heavy while execution still churning good result given the spec is done well.

GigaOm was one of the early publications that my younger self enjoy to follow, it was a good formative years. Later I knew when it got acquired that the OM of GigaOm was from its founder.

rest in peace

GLM 5.2 vs. Opus 1 month ago

Totally agree witg the general assessment. The biggest problem with Z.ai model for a long time is not quality, but the inference speed and general capacity availability. Hopefully with this recent hype, there will be more provider on openrouter for 5.2.

It's not even good, honestly. I was using it for couple weeks before dropping that 2 months ago. The model was not good and slow, the harness was not good, the IDE was subpar vscode clone. If IDE still important for your Workflow, Trae of Cursor offer much better interface, harness and plan.

I would say compute and storage separation is the way to go, especially for hyperscaler offering ala aurora db/cosmos/alloy. And later more opensource alternatives will catch up.

Working with AI centric IDE on the mature codebase needs different skill set that I suspect related to people management. As the pattern would be describing a problem well, making a good plan, delegate and giving feedback.

On the other side, getting a good flow is not trivial. I had to tweak rules, how to describe problem, how to plan the work and how to ask the agent. It takes time to be productive.

Eg. Asking agent to create a script to do string manipulation is better than asking them to do inplace edit. As it's easier to debug and repeat.

Not really my case. Found that Codebase with good code benefit more with LLM, but it's not the prerequisite.

I just rewrote 300ish advanced PostgreSQL queries to mysql queries. The process is not magical, but it will take me 1 week rather than 3 days. Now I'm on testing phase, seems promising.

The point is if we can find a work to work along with the agent, can be very productive.

One thing particularly not clear to me is weather ios scan all data in the phone and send it to be part of public index or not. I see from how the feature works from the UI it seems it's not. If the feature activated by user action does this still constitute as phoning home?

As stated in the release that Elon gave Hundreds of Millions dollars to the non profit, it's 1/3 of the early raised fund. So is it basically he gave away money for (ultimately) start up with no benefit for him?

Or is it just another tax magic stuff for him?
