When I'm measuring developer performance I look at one stat: Do they make reasonable deadlines without generating a ton of bugs?
Why is this? Well, it's because the amount of tickets, code, or even time spent "logged in" doesn't matter. The only thing that matters to a business is if they can deliver on time so the product can keep moving forward and others aren't waiting for them.

How did you manage that and what was (in general) the biggest obstacle/low-point of your journey so far?
When I was fired from a previous job because of a clerical error on my part. I was three months into it, had just bought a new car and was getting married in a few months. Turns out it was the best thing to ever happen to me career wise as it allowed me to focus 100% on programming, leading to a career change and ultimately my current job after a few years in a big consulting corp.

I like this approach, and am also relieved it's part of an overall strategy that included professional help.
Depression has caused serious damage to my relationships -- it causes me to experience apathy towards those I care about, irritability, aggression and self-harm. I would throw myself into my work and constantly shifting hobbies, basically anything where I didn't have the time to think about other things.
These symptoms, apparently, are fairly common in men who are experiencing depression and one of the reasons it can go undiagnosed.
