This has been my experience too. I migrated a few dozen projects from DO to Hetzner, and my monthly bill went from about $80 to around $162. The only thing that changed was Hetzner's rate hikes.

Now I'm in a weird spot. I could downgrade some servers, but changing them would immediately move me onto the new pricing. So I either pay more for less hardware, or pay a lot, lot more if I ever need to scale back up.

The PSF allows three board members to share an affiliation, 13 seats * 0.25 ~= 3.25.

BTH, that's one too many, and I helped write/recommend the original language. When I was on the board, three felt like too many, even though everyone was wonderful, and it was Google, not Microsoft, that hit the limit.

The DSF (Django Software Foundation) recently adopted a two-person limit, which I recommend more boards consider.

Django 6.0 beta 1 is now available. It represents the second stage in the 6.0 release cycle and is an opportunity to try out the changes coming in Django 6.0.

UV is great but also builds on existing PEPs. While they have the ability experiment (which is great), they also benefit from those "endless non productive discussions on peps" as you called it.

I think UV proves that dedicated funding can make a huge impact on a project and benefit for the community. They are a doing a damn, good job.

These companies are either setting all-time profit and revenue numbers or just missing last year's all-time records. Wall Street wasn't happy that they just missed their growth targets, but keep in mind that all growth is compounded. So they have never been more profitable, and yet here we are.

You are right that this donation does not show up in our tax filings because they provide it to any OSS project.

I had good luck with a low carb (in my case Keto diet). Definitely check with your doc (or another doc) but you might try removing wheat and some dairy and seeing how you feel. I used to get stomach bloat and an upset stomaches but after starting Keto, I have been stomach issue freeing going on 4+ months. I'd start with a food diary and noting how you feel physically and energy wise after every meal since a doctor is going to ask for that anyways. It might help you spot some trends. The MyFirstnessPal app (free version) does a pretty good job of making this easy btw. Good luck!

You might checkout out [Duet](https://www.duetdisplay.com/) which I have used for years (currently on the 12.9 iPad Pro) and really takes the edge off for me. It works perfectly and turn an iPad into a damn good display.

FireTV is built on Android and has a real controller for gaming. It won't compete with Steam Machines for high-end games but there's certainly enough hardware to pull off some great games and apps.

My girlfriend's iPhone 4s updated to iOS7 and refused to activate. After four or five hours of going through support and then a trip to the Apple store, Apple confirmed that the hardware was fine but something went wrong on the upgrade. The "Genuis" told us that's it's "unfortunate" that things like wifi sometimes break when you upgrade your phone's OS because of the stress that it puts your phone through. Their only solution was to buy a used phone of the same model for $200 from them. Our request to have downgrade back to iOS6 (we have both an iTunes backup and an iCloud backup) was refused because the "Genuises" can't even do it. I even offered to pay them to fix that phone and we were told they couldn't do it.

We refused to pay Apple to replace her phone and I bought her a friend's spare phone in the meanwhile. My first and only bad experience with Apple so far but quite disappointing to say the least.

I was really excited until I realized (like others here) that MMS only works with US short codes and Canadian phone numbers.

If anyone needs this functionality today then mogreet has an api but it works over a shared shortcode so you have to send a keyword with it.

I am really looking forward to the day that Twilio or someone else supports MMS without the need of a short code.

Large scale deploys are hard. Give them some time for the dust to settle before over-reacting.

It's pretty much a given that moving from one major release to another is going to break things. Since you're using Django as an example then I should point out that this is why Django spent half of it's life in a pre-1.0 state where there were major changes from the .91, .95, and .96 branches which broke every minor version up until 1.0 before it was officially released. I'm half surprised you didn't just create a requests-1.0 branch and then give the third party libraries time to upgrade instead of pinning to shas. I have several projects that depend on requests<1.0 which will run just fine for some time.

[Forkinit](http://forkinit.com/) does a good job of this but hasn't been updated in a while. You might check them out for other ideas in this space. Looks like you have a great start.

I agree. I was really impressed with Dustin's blog where each post had a different design theme. I was hoping that svbtle would pull something more creative off. The network itself is fine but the quality doesn't seem to be better than my rss feeds. /me shrugs

I wrote a bot a year or so ago which implemented a very basic subset of Turtle / LOGO using python for minecraft classic and a repl. When the newer protocol came out, I stopped working on it after the protocol changed but it was a fun exercise.

I'd love to see a "grouped" pull request option. Something that would let me say show me changes from repo1 + repo2 because they depend on each other. Think refactoring code into a smaller repo, etc. I deal with this quite a bit with clients as they grow from small apps into much more complex apps with lots of inner dependencies and tests.

I agree. I moved to bitbucket after canceling their small service because jumping from $12 to $22 just for a few more private repos. I wish they had more a of a hobbyist plan with maybe a storage limit or a $1 a repo type pricing. I didn't care for their practice of deleting forum posts every time someone would ask about similar questions. I still recommend them for my clients though.

Andrew Godwin wrote an interesting piece for the [Lanyrd blog](http://lanyrd.com/blog/2012/lanyrds-big-move/) where they talk a bit about putting their database in read-only mode. I know this doesn't cover your situation but it might help ease the transition of what to do while you are starting your migrations.

We started using grove on a large client back in February / March and as of this month we are still paying clients. We started trying out flowdoc recently but we are trying out a few options between now and October. Outages aside, our clients liked the product.

Moving our team off of Grove was a bigger pain then dealing with the sporadic mini-outages so we put up with it longer then smaller teams or most companies. We really liked the feature set but just needed the product to be more stable. The writing has been on the wall for a few months as doing a twitter search will show the lack of a response for a few months now.
