Could you share what worked for you? Is it B2B/b2c? I guess that matters too for the type of marketing to focus on?

On a side note, I find that this flow state has it's addiction of it's own. I find myself doing whatever I can to find time for it. I feel like the reason mathematicians, physicists and artists of the past produced such great results is, they found the flow state so addictive, more addictive than balancing your health or family life, and thus dedicated almost entirety of their lives on it. Just have to be careful on that one. After all, our purpose is (I think) is not just working.
Without going into too much details, could you share some niche areas? And what kind of tech adoption are missing?
Impressive for CustomTkinter. Well done with the UI design.
Thanks. Yeah there are papers that I am interested on, in fact, I am interested on too many things at once which doesn't help. Also, I think I am always thinking of solving bigger problems where it's hard to make progress on.
Also, since you mentioned scaling systems and equations, are you by any chance working on numerical linear algebra stuffs like iterative solvers etc.? MPI/HPC etc? If so, I am in HPC as well.
Considering EU is so far behind on AI and tech as a whole, I hope they see this an opportunity to develop something of their own with better data privacy or whatever suits their boat(I don't know how though). I am really rooting for EU and their economy to bounce back. The world desperately needs a balance from all sides.
In C++ there is the align_alloc specificier. https://en.cppreference.com/w/c/memory/aligned_alloc
Not sure for C
I am doing my PhD and occasionally my supervisor and I come across papers that don't have any meaningful results/statistics but you gotta publish somehow. Like, they conclude with "We observed that the latency can be reduced by 2x-300x." I feel like the group that did this research spent a decade, and their supervisor was like, well, we gotta publish something. Choose an age interval that fits the whole data. 30-90.
My father-in-law's stage 4 brain tumor was discovered when he was 50. He's in good health now. They operated on him and removed the tumors and did chemotherapy. They continuously monitored for regrowth but it didn't happen. He did yoga religiously for most of his adult life. Even his hair has grown back.
Very valuable advices. Do you mind sharing how you got the starting customers? Did you find customers and then build the product?
So this is where the Indie developer trend is right now: open source analytics. I think I have been seeing replica of Plausible every other day. But I am glad the trend as shifted from the AI wrappers.
Reading a book is not really passive. Especially if it's a good book. You have to constantly imagine the layouts and the connections the book is trying to draw. For me, after years of Internet, getting back to books made me appreciate my younger self because books need active imagination and follow-through in the brain. I was able to do that effortlessly when I was a child. In fact, if you read all the HN comments the way you read books, it will be challenging(if you have no book reading habits).
Agree with everything but I don't know think James Maynard was actually being interviewed during that video.
Genuine question, I also like to use my smartphone less, but what about when you are in the lavatory? I have a habit of using my smartphone else I cannot go. Has anyone been able to solve that?
This is really actionable, incredible advice. Thanks for breaking down to pieces. This is so much better than the startup books that get too winded and never explain the exact steps to actually talk to customers. I am toying an idea for about 6 months and I think that while there are products in the market that do what I am thinking, I can position myself better. It's targeted towards lawyers, accountants, real estate agents, etc. Do you think LinkedIn is a good channel to reach them? Do you also use LinkedIn premium? Have you tried cold emails? Sorry to bombard you with so many questions. Do you have a way to reach you besides HN? If you are fine with it of course.
Any advice on how to talk to potential customers in the beginning say even before writing the code? Do you cold email/cold call? How do you start to talk about their problems?
If you're working remotely, Nepal.
Curious, why do you want to start another product, especially on a new stack if you have one already in the market? Doesn't it make sense to put focus all in the one you've launched? I am also trying to figure out this bootstrapping thing so got curious.
"Meditation can even exacerbate depression, anxiety, and other negative emotions in certain people."
If the author had put enough serious time in meditation, he would notice that meditation doesn't exacerbate negative emotions, it just makes you aware of the negative emotions that were already there and that you were ignoring by social media, alcohol, drugs, tiktok, etc. Meditation makes you aware of where the problem is and why the negative emotions come up. Think of it like a very good debugger. It's no substitution for solving the problem. It gives you the tools to solve the problem. Imagine your boss gave you a buggy code but seemingly it seems to compile and work but he keeps saying the code has errors, it's not supposed to work that way. You will go nuts if you don't know where the problem is. You don't even need the solution, just knowing the problem is enough to save you a lot of trouble. Meditation on the initial stages works that way. Later, you'll figure out as you go. Buddha said just do it, don't analyze l, just do it. The author here didn't have the patience to just do it and see it for himself, instead he focussed on the philosophy too much.
Meditating on a cushion for hours everyday is no substitution for being kind to strangers. Meditation brings you clarity even if the clarity is something you don't like. Hell, even Buddha was enlightened when he actually left meditation and gave up meditation altogether (which the author seems to have completely miss it here). Buddhism may not be perfect(what's perfect anyway?) but as George Box put it "All models are wrong, some are useful" Buddhism tries the best to be the most right and the useful model of the world.
I watched the whole fight with a 2 minute delay. That was frustrating and it didn't help that Tyson lost.
What about sleeping more than 8 hours? Is there any research done on this? Will this affect negatively? I sleep 8-9 hrs most days. (No, I am not depressed or anything but I don't drink coffee or any stimulant to keep me awake so I get really tired at the end of the day.)
Congratulations! This is my dream. But the SaaS thing is so challenging. Couple of questions if you don't mind. Any tips for someone starting out? Did you have any experience in the pest control business? How did you decide pest control industry? How did you market the product?
Unfortunately, storing the document is required. Almost an essential feature.
Awesome work! I don't have knowledge on music but I like if something makes good sound without knowing the theory behind it, I like it.
It works seamlessly on an old beaten Android phone too. I tried recreating Minecraft music(like Taswell) but couldn't do it well. Wondering if it's at all possible on this.
I think there are two types of fear mostly, the innate survival animalistic fear and the self-perpetuating fear caused due to misunderstanding. The animalistic fear is present in all and it's not possible to get rid of. When you see a snake or a tiger in front of you, that fear is natural. The response is to jump or run and is so spontaneous, you can't really control it. It's necessary for survival. But I think we are interested in the other fear, the one that is bound to attachment. You see a tiger, you panic, turns out to be a cat, you laugh it off, go away, that fear is not an issue. But if you go about your day thinking, what if that was a tiger? What if I get jumped by tiger this time? Then, you are creating the fear. The fear has no basis, except for it was implanted to you awhile ago. And now you are attaching yourself to it. You are extending it which is the actual problem. Most of us have fears that go back to childhood. If you think back far enough(like the tiger example), question yourself why you are afraid, you know the answers.
One more example, I used to be afraid of getting heart-attacks in the past. Even gas passing would make me panic. Have I ever had a heart-attack before? No. How am I so damn sure that I have a heart-attack if I don't even know what it's supposed to feel like? Heart-attack is a bad thing and it shouldn't be happening to me. How is every acid reflux a heart-attack to me now. I have created my own bubble of fear. When though? I sure as hell didn't know what heartattack is when I was born. So it happened when I was able to comprehend what a heart-attack is right? For me, it's due to people around me passing, it's due to reading on Internet about young celebrities dying to strokes, watching movies, etc. It got implanted in me. I don't know a heartattack I just have an idea of it which is not the same thing. Not even remotely related.
Fear arises due to misunderstanding. If you trace it far back enough, fear was implanted mostly in the childhood.
Shit, I do sleep 8 hrs a day but regularity is out of the question. Fuck
Interesting. I think the same thing but I wonder if the market is not ready for products created by the big guys, what can I offer? Have you thought in that line?
I was a teen a few years back who stopped doing marijuana/alcohol. Stopped like in never even seen them since I quit/no relapse. I stopped because my childhood friends started dissipating and they stopped and then I stopped. Doing weed/alcohol alone didn't appeal to me much.
I think that too. That it's surely meant to be something. But sometimes I think what does "meaning" even mean? Does universe really have any "meaning", the term that humans invented and that even they are unsure of? Then, I think it's a big randomness, a random accident, a big joke, just happening with nothing to make sense of.
Does anyone who has successfully followed their passion project and has been financially successful as well provide some comments on this article? Is it just PG's way of luring in wannabe-enterpreneurs with words or does it hold some value? I am in no position to judge this since I am still working a day job.
