In the EU we have a law (guideline) that banks need to implement PSD2.

There are several companies who have build PSD2 api's and have contracts with all banks. For example in the Netherlands: https://bizcuit.nl/wat-is-psd2/

You could also register with a bank itself to connect to their PSD2 API. However I don't know the costs to obtain a license.

I worked for Colours. A fullservice Internet Agency in Den Bosch. They have a fairly strict "no re-hiring policy". They don't want to encourage people to quit by hiring them back as contractor immediately. Which I can understand.

I disagree. At the company where I work we have the exact same proces for making a website and making a mobile app. Depending on type of customer we use a waterfall or an agile approach.

Fair enough, that you mention the loose points. From your article I got the impression that you think app development can be only be done as a waterfall project because of the toolset. And the point I was trying to make in my post is that my experience tells me otherwise.

Maybe my text was not clear on this. I will check it again.

To answer your questions: a RESTful API to be used by my app only and not to be consumed by the rest of the world is not such a big deal. Using the mock-up as input I'll create a working prototype in xcode in 2-5 days. After that I'll send it to the customer as soon as possible. The visual designer will design the app. I will implement the design.

As software engineers we are hired by our clients because we have knowledge and skills that they don't have. It is our job to educate them on the important parts. Always have, always will be. I understand your frustration, but it is nothing new. Or maybe it's just me getting old :-)

The same reasoning would imply that making a movie would be really cheap. Afterall ticket prices are really cheap as well.

Still, it's nothing new. The last ten years till today people are still surprised that we can't build an ebay for € € 1000,- . It will always be our job as software engineers to educate our clients.

Coming from Eindhoven I'am a bit jealous of the Startup community in Amsterdam. But still I would not really consider working in Amsterdam. The 1:20 hour single trip commute by train would take the best of me.

Around 400-600 euro a month selling subscriptions to people and schools who do exercises to improve their Dutch language skills. We offer free exercises for everybody and people can get extra features with subscriptions.

If you want to develop you're Dutch skills I have the site for you :) Our site is used a lot by non-native Dutch. I have some connections to startups in Amsterdam. Maybe I can introduce you to some.

Ranking higher is hard, those sites have been around for ages.

We rank quite well on: "Nederlands oefenen" & "Werkwoordspelling" for example.

Currently most of our sales to schools go to teachers (that's why we keep the prices low, a teacher might even be tempted to pay by themself. We sold to over 40 classes.

Yes I looked into it, however we are not in the position to relocate to the US. And also imagineK12 looks very US orientated. While our product is very focused on The Netherlands. (and Dutch schools abroad)

Tnx, i'm working 4,5 days now. When the baby is born I will be working 4 days. Getting from the current income to 10x at the current grow rate will take us 4 years at least.

Any advice how to make it sustainable?

Being a Dutch man I already work less :). Ontopic: I find the conclusion strange. 20 years ago a lot of women didn't work. Right now the percentage of working women is quite high. Some people will say it's because of our country getting more US like.

I like my work, but still if I don't have to be there 40+hours a week and make a decent living. You're not going to find me at the office.
