For that half you are migrating, you are essentially operating without redundancy. If these are serious production workloads, the tradeoff is not as simple as you make it seem.

I have been using Foqos app since a month now and it’s been amazing on my iPhone. You can create a block list of apps and when you start “Foqos” those apps will be blocked. You have to unblock before using those apps. But here is the best part. The unblocking can be configured such that it does only when you tap on a NFC tag. I spend a lot of time on the phone as soon as I wake up. So I have been blocking before sleep and keeping the NFC tag in the garage. Amazing setup for me.

This app I assume is exactly like the more mainstream Brick app but this app lets you configure any off the shelf NFC tags which you can get under $5.

Also, one of the highest taxes.

Custom feeds really intrigue me. If I understand the API right, if you are an implementer of a custom feed, you need to expose an endpoint that the bluesky server can hit whenever a user wants to load content for that custom feed. And the endpoint that you implement will return the results. Does this mean that the implementer of this feed will have to take into account the network costs? What I am trying to get at is that if you implement a custom feed, you need to be aware that you are potentially looking at hitting your data caps on your internet provider if a lot of folks start consuming that feed. Do I understand this right?

I am aware that there are services that let you create custom feeds. But they are mostly for simple compositions like a feed for the following set of words and/or set of people, etc.

I think the user has to mentally tune out the bad websites that significantly use fillers -- most "news" sites. AI summary is definitely time saved for such websites.

Well written articles deserve to be long form and not summarized as you note. But the large majority of web articles belong to the former category.

Refuelling the Rav4 is an errand that takes time, planning, and mental energy.

I have never seen anyone say fueling a gas car needs planning and mental energy. Unless the first car you ever drove was an EV, it is hard to believe that it NOT almost a second nature to drive to a nearest gas station as soon as your car beeps about remaining mile range. This is greenwashing at its finest.

It is too soon to tell but my intuition here is that this platform is primarily going to be driven by bluecheckmarks and influencers. And it is in Meta's interest to display that as the main feed. If and when the people we actually follow start posting, they might add a follower tab

I think these big accounts were given access to Threads much before the rate limiting debacle. And that was great tactic by Threads IMO. Having a lot of "Verified" accounts engagement on the app on day 1 when rest of the world joined gave it instant credibility.

I was able to get in by doing these. Not sure if these are necessary:

- Go to instagram app on the App Store. Scroll down to the section where it says other apps from the same developer. There, next to the Threads app, I had the download button. After installing the app I still was not able to open it.

- Once I had the app installed, I clicked through (on twitter) on someone's threads.net link and that kicked off the initial setup of the Threads app for me.

I am surprised no one has mentioned Coros yet. I have been using the Coros Pace 2 and it been very good. Basic smartphone with notification mirroring from iPhone. Has about 10 days of battery life. Has very good support for various activities. Very satisfied so far.

I am completely uneducated on the state of EV charging right now. But for a 700+ miles, you would have to fully charge 2+ times? And how does it compare to a gas car given the availability of superchargers, excessive demands on long weekends, etc? Not trying to dismiss EV because of these factors, just genuinely curious of the compromise.

One thing that is easily overlooked is the % of the laid off employees who are on a work VISA. This can be easily looked up and it is not insignifcant. Once an employee on a work VISA is laid off, he/she has a clock ticking. Imagine if such a person has invested their and their kids lives here -- mortgage, school, etc -- this puts an enormous mental stress on such families. I am one of those.

Don't get me wrong I am forever grateful the opportunities this country has given me and my family. But this rule of "get another job in 2 months or get the hell out of the country" is just cruel.

I am not sure if you are a man or a woman. Try changing the name of your iPhone to something like "Heather's iPhone" and then turn on AirDrop to "Everyone" on your subway rides. I am sure your experience will be vastly different.
