All these various other proposals ignore the main problem: the original station never should have been demolished in the first place. The only proper solution is rebuilding the original, not designing some new thing that is slightly more acceptable than what's there now.

Overall I like the HN UI and wouldn't want it changed, but I do largely agree with this particular criticism; a lot of the click targets are too small IMO. (In particular, the upvote/downvote buttons' 13x13px targets stand out as way too tiny on mobile.)

However, saying that the click targets are too small means the whole UI is terrible seems a bit on the hyperbolic side. You could maintain pretty much the exact same UI with slightly larger click targets and it would fix your issue.

The James-Bond-like part is doing it from your watch specifically. (Consider the various wrist-gadgets found in the movies over the years.)

My hot take is that all zoning should be abolished. It serves no legitimate purpose whatsoever.

In theory, but I think the problem you'd find in practice is that reviewing 100s of nearly-identical AI-written articles gets very boring very quickly, and a lot of errors would slip through.

It really is -- my iPad has the same CPU as my Mac, and it highlights just how much iPadOS lets the hardware go to waste. MacOS is better in essentially every possible way -- faster, can run whatever you like, better multitasking.

I'd argue that your proposed fixes merely bolster my original point; not implementing notifications in the first place is a sufficiently positive influence that it negates the need for things like user blocks.

If I'm curious how people reacted to my comment (as I did here), I'll go to my user page and see what responses I got. This makes it a deliberate action on the part of the user instead of a reactive one.

I’d argue that’s not really true. Yes it’s not really possible to fully prevent the use of it, but if you ban all financial entities from transacting with crypto in any meaningful way, scams become a lot harder to pull off.

TBH I think this would would be a negative change.

Not being able to see immediately if you got a reply discourages the repeated back-and-forth arguing that is common on Reddit.

HN is nearly perfect as is IMO -- any changes would ruin a lot of what makes it special.

That said, the one change I would probably make is changing the click targets to be slightly larger on the upvote/downvote/collapse on comments. Would be a nice improvement for mobile users.
