An LSTM takes a series of values and uses a combination of gates to determine critical information to hold on to or forget as a sequence unfolds. This is a compressive technique that removes the requirement of having all previous sequence information at the time of a particular inference.

This paper "compress sequence information into an anchor token" which is then used at inference time to reduce the information required for prediction as well as speed up that prediction. They do this via "continually pre-training the model to compress sequence information into the anchor token."

Anyone have reliable numbers on the file sizes here? Doom.exe from my searches was around 715k, and with all assets somewhere around 10MB. It looks like the SD 1.4 files are over 2GB, so it's likely we're looking at a 200-2000x increase in file size depending on if you think of this as an 'engine' or the full game.

I'd like to see a doc that outlines how Reticulum handles standard network failures and attacks. Ok, the network just got partitioned, what happens? Ok someone is spamming announce messages trying to eat the 2% bandwidth allocation of everyone on the network, what happens?

That would help me quickly understand the properties of this system.

At the very lease please put huge warnings around this section to let people know that it is a horrendously bad idea and they do it at their own peril.

What's funny to me is that in college we had our computer lab set up such that every computer could be quickly reverted to a good working state just by rebooting. Every boot was from a static known good image, and any changes made while the computer was on were just stored as an overlay on a separate disk. People installed all manner of software that crashed the machines, but they always came back up. To make any lasting changes to the machine you had to have a physical key. So with the right kind of paranoia you can build systems that are resilient to any harmful changes.

I use pip. I plan to continue using pip. If I need an isolated environment, I use conda, but then I install everything with pip. If I need to guarantee versions I pip freeze.

There's a lot of cruft and desire for a one-size-fits-all solution but the base tools are probably good enough. My setup is not the one-size-fits-all solution but it works for me, and my team, and lots of other teams.

Beware anyone who tells you that thirty years of tooling doesn't have a solution to the problem you're facing and you need this new shiny thing.*

*Playing with shiny things is fun and should not be discouraged, but must not be mandated either.

"Gathering more light" is generally proportional to its planar surface. In the case of a surface film the potential increase in projected planar area is minuscule.

If you imagine an incident ray, to have a material "gather more light", that ray needs to intersect the material whereas without that material it would miss the surface. By adding some amount of height the film may cause some rays to intersect the surface that wouldn't have (primarily around the edges) but that's going to be very very small.

In general its a safe assumption that any material of the same projected planar area you put in front of another material will reduce the total transmisivity of the system.
