Hi Taylor! Really interesting idea. I look forward to following Focusmate and giving it a go sometime soon. One use-case that I didn't see mentioned in your copy is for creatives. Consistently finding time to sit down and work on creative projects, music, writing, art can be a real challenge. I would certainly be interested in trying this out in my music production. Initial hesitation from me is the requirement for video chat, just because I haven't grown comfortable with doing that with a stranger over the internet. Perhaps video chat is a critical component to making this whole thing work, but maybe there is some middle ground that can be achieved by just using text chat or the like. Curious to know your thoughts on both these points. Cheers! - Varun

would be fun little project to create an app that generates the puzzles. input a word like "rain", use word2vec, or something even simpler, to identify associated words and order the words. next challenge would be to sort the generated puzzles by difficulty. i could see it being a very addictive mobile game, with very challenging puzzles being great for multiplayer or sharing with others via SMS, FB to help solve.

I think we need to continue to be careful to not be so alarmed by published patent applications. Again, none of these are issued patents, but rather pending applications, which may never reach allowance from the PTO and, if they are allowed, will most likely be left with claims that have been narrowed significantly in scope in light of prior art and publicly known technologies.

There are certainly many issues with the U.S. patent system that need to be addressed, but I think it's counterproductive to not make the distinction between a mere application for a patent and an issued patent. If anything, in debating a broken patent system, our best examples to study should be broad, issued patents being used in litigation. In which case we can more productively debate either the patent's validity and/or what the scope of patentable subject matter under U.S. patent law should be.

does anyone have information about how we "saw"/imagined earth before images were taken from space?

I'm sure the ride is private and not shared as in a Super Shuttle. The service seems to be more in position to compete with Uber SUV than Uber Black Car, where the best value is really in using it for larger groups of 5 or 6 people.
