Some time ago I published four small articles[1] about templeOS. Unfortunately I had less time to deal with this OS. I can only guess that you should have a look at this OS. If you ignore all the religious information you can experiment a lot. Even though Terry was very ill, I have an incredible respect for what he did. There are not many people who have put their own OS on its feet and even implemented very unusual ideas of their own. All this running on ring 0 is pretty exciting.

I've given up RSS. Until the end of the year 2019 I still had a RSS.xml file which I updated by hand, but eventually I got too much work. The main reason was not that RSS is "dead" but the old and cumbersome syntax. I cannot get used to XML. Another reason is that browsers have started not to support RSS anymore. I have never used a reader, but rather read RSS in the browser than some kind of minimalist blog. It is difficult to say if RSS is dead, but I have the "subjective" feeling that less and less people implement RSS in their projects. In my opinion, RSS should be completely revised, not only in concept but also in syntax.

I've seen this many times in the last few weeks. Can people please stop copying and pasting individual sentences of an article out of the actual context of the article and posting them in the comments. Even without a comment of their own. This way the article cannot be viewed objectively and that is also the reason why misinformation is spread. We are not in other "social communities" here. Thank you.

For me as a Linux only user, Proton is an incredible relief. I have all my games on Steam and can turn on Proton with a checkbox. I often use it to play old classics like The Eldar Scrolls Morrowind or Oblivion. For me Proton is a gamechanger, because a few years ago I had a second laptop running Windows and I played my games on it. I haven't had that for three years.

I used the Zkn3[1] software for a while, but unfortunately it is not updated anymore. Also the software quickly reaches its performance limits with many entries. Nevertheless it is worth a look, if you want to see the concept as software.

That's one of the reasons I'm not buying a device with Android 10. I find it intolerable that I can't uninstall most pre-installed apps. PlayMusic, PlayBooks, News, Drive. Hangouts, Assistant, GMail etc. are all apps I don't use. Nevertheless, they are still on my smartphone and take away important space. I understand that Google/Alphabet also wants to earn money but it's really annoying. I'm using the Firefox browser but still can't uninstall Google Chrome.

[Dev] I'm not a fan of syncthing, but that's up to everyone. Why I used email is because I often have to send links from websites to other contacts. I click the right mouse button and send the link. I like to combine several applications to save time. At first it sounds like a marginal time difference, but it's the total time of a year. The browser has evolved as it turned out to be best for my very special way of working. I can't please all people and I don't want to.

I am not satisfied with the previous Javascript solution. Yes, an ad blocker can help, but this is at the expense of loading time. I hate to wait until a website is loaded. Since most videos are implemented as Javascript application, they are blocked by default in the alligator. I don't want to missionize you here either, because there are enough web browsers on the market. My main goal is to get to know other points of view so that I can develop a better product.

The links are stored centrally and I can access them directly from my computer, laptop or smartphone. A text file on my OS is cumbersome and I can access it very badly with other services.

Yes, it is really difficult to surf the Internet without Javascript. But I deliberately decided against it, because Javascript is not necessary for my information retrieval. I need information and I need it fast. I don't have time to load hundreds of single JS scripts, only to display advertisements, blink features and unnecessary menus. The web has evolved into a massive blob of additional features in recent years. That's ok if you want to be entertained. The browsers have adapted to it. But, so now I have to ask a question, why does news.ycombinator.com allow me to login and comment without javascript? Because the focus is on a good and fast service. And this is what the Alligator Browser is designed for.

Unity and Unreal

Unity and Unreal are Game Engines, not 3D Software. Yes, It's possible to use U and U for 3D modelling, but nobody with a chopchop brain do it. If you work with U and U you create the model in Blender/What ever and import it to the engines for the programming backend.

Whoa! And as I just notice by your comment, not for the login either. I only tested the HN search function once and it only worked with Javascript. Therefore I assumed that this is the case with all other functions. Thank you.

Most of the time I use my own browser [1] because I set this javascript to False and can therefore "roughly" do without an adblocker. Unfortunately no social media or other login services work. For Youtube, Twitch and other video services I also use mpv which turned out to be a very good and fast solution.

The author is right when he says in the conclusion that it is really difficult to do without Firefox. Although many services can be fixed with external programs, these are often only emergency solutions.

But I also learned to distinguish between the "information" web and the "entertainment" web and since I do a lot of research, programming and reading in data sources I don't need Javascript to 95%. Other points are important to me, e.g. fast loading times, low CPU and minimalist design. But you have to do without many features.

Text-based web browsers are cool, yes. But if you're not in the Linux scene and ride on (e.g. Manjaro I3) it's incredibly cumbersome and exhausting.

I've read the book and it's pretty good, it also shows how bad the economy is. Especially where there are a lot of "manager" jobs that seem to be quite superfluous.

The fact that Deutsche Bank is cutting 18K jobs is quite bitter, because the mass of people is quite large. I wonder if other banks are planning such layoffs and if we will have to expect more mass cutts.

Unfortunately the page only shows the loading gif (in the left top corner) and nothing else happens. Tested in Firefox 66.0.5 (64-bit) browser.

I have tried it 50 times and had only three wrong answers. The best method _in this case_ to recognize a fake face is to look at the background. In many cases you can see considerable disturbances.
