As I've gotten more into cooking as I've gotten older it's frustrating how often people don't really understand why they do things the way they do when they cook something, yet will doggedly insist that it must be done that certain way. As I've started to watch more and pay attention to youtubers who explain why they do things in a logical and rational way, even if you're not interested in that particular recipe, the correctly explained and justified techniques will be beneficial in many other things you cook.

I don't think just any old person can make money off OF though, like presumably you need a reasonable camera and maybe lights or something, you need to be able to edit photos, the time and energy and motivation to learn how to use those things etc. It's not like some random struggling single mother can take a few pics of her feet on her 5 year old iphone and be expecting to make decent money.

That's cool I'd love to hear more about it, I've actually been thinking about ways that a language app could work better. Seems like all the current research is that "immersion" in the target language is critical, an app that just played me conversations, had me read text, etc and 'creatively' formulate responses, not just simply fill in the missing word, obviously in increasing difficulty would be ideal.

I don't know anyone that actually want to be back in the office full time, some are ok with part-time work.

Most people seem to be (anecdotally at least) reporting that they and their teams are more productive at home and their quality of life is improved because they aren't wasting time commuting.

Businesses could save money by renting smaller offices or doing away with offices completely.

Good engineers are just going to jump ship to wherever they can work fully remotely.

Honestly from using duolingo pretty heavily for a couple of years, attending language classes and doing my own individual study I've found duolingo pretty useless. It's "fun" and gives one the sense of progress without really accomplishing much.

Even as someone thats only just above a junior engineer, I feel like I've been made to feel stupid or that I was wasting other peoples time or such for "just asking questions" so many times. I'm extremely reluctant to do so tbh. There have of course been people who encouraged and welcomed questions (for whom I'm extremely grateful) but it's the negative experiences that stand out.

It's really been a major contributor to my loss of interest and passion for this industry over the last few years I think.

How often is this even feasible though? sure if there's little difference between the PR branch and whatever the last build I've done is, it wont take too long to build but then I have to install our product and get it set up to test. We have a ton of legacy code that isn't easily testable. We do have a CI build but it takes like ~6 hours to build.
