"All his accounts with US companies such as Amazon, Airbnb, or PayPal were immediately closed by the providers. Online bookings, such as through Expedia, are immediately canceled, even if they concern hotels in France."

How is this legal / OK?

About half of the problems mentioned by the article are solved by the all-in-one-inbox beeper.com, now owned by Automattic.

It allows me for example to avoid Instagram's crack app while still DMing with friends only available on there.

Except "Long term availability" ... I'd love to have my full chat archive under my own control but doesn't seem on the roadmap.

Oh? I think the outrage over making the reader feel like "a bad or prejudiced person" that accompanies any invitation to challenge assumptions is so tedious.

How come this culture war mindset infuses everything we do online now?

Nowhere does this map or its description even imply you are a bad person.

It's pure ... projection

Shift | Amsterdam, Netherlands | Hybrid or Remote | Full-time or Contract

WANTED: Fullstack developer that wants to save the world

At Shift, we want to make it easy for anyone to combat climate change. We are a non-profit startup.

We developed a (physical, irl) 3 month program where people reduced the CO2 emissions from their lifestyle by 25% on average, and found joy in it. Now we want to see if we can get the same results via a web app. Want to build it with us?

Ideal candidate: You have 8+ years experience. Preferred stack doesn't matter. You can show a portfolio of (personal) little projects. You have a strong moral sense. Interested in AI-assisted coding. Able to come to Amsterdam occasionally.

Please mail your github or portfolio to welcomeonboard@shift.world

An important topic to be on HN for several reasons. Let's hope it doesn't get downvoted / flamed into oblivion.

There’s a leaderboard on the Blue Wolf app, which effectively tracks the military units that are using the tool and capturing the faces of Palestinians. It gives you a weekly score based on the most amount of pictures taken. Military units that captured the most faces of Palestinians on a weekly basis would be provided rewards such as paid time away.

upvoted you not because I 100% agree but your (completely reasonable) comment looks to have been downvoted very heavily.

I do feel there needs to be space to discuss what kinds of reductions of consumption make sense, esp for rich countries.

To go a little bit further on this argument: I was dissapointed because the whole point of making this film turned out to be for nothing.

Instead of animation, it felt to me like just a live action film with a fiter. Sure, the filter in this case took many man-hours to produce, and as stills felt pretty, but there was something vital missing.

I found this hard to put into words, but here goes:

Actual animation thinks about how to present perspective, movement, character, etc. This film chose to paint over moving pictures, and in that way literally took over all the 'real' visual elements without making any choices in them. Compared to almost any anime, it feels lifeless and an under-use of the medium, IMO.

Long Covid is no joke. Many have been hoping for a breakthrough. This new hypothesis is trying to explain all symptoms different long haulers experience, from muscle pain, post exertional symptom exacerbation to fatigue.

I think this is a fair assessment.

Big social media companies are not incentivized to care about psychological and social side effects of their product.

A bit like cigarette companies offloading externalities onto society, but much harder to specifically identify and address.

Twitter Notes 4 years ago

Any other similar platform (weibo, facebook, G+) just allows the post/tweet to be long and editable.

It’s a proven concept. It leads to many people sharing their thoughts in a more readable way than a thread of tweets, and has a lower barrier than having a blog.

What I see here feels overspec’d and convoluted, as if hundreds of people had to have a say on what could be a very simple and singular product.
