Nicely put, unconsciously this was my mindset in my 20s. In my 30s, I started questioning myself how come so many stupid people achieve great success. There must be more to success than just being relatively intelligent (just look into politicians - forgive generalization).

Once a nagging thought, now I find some comfort in it.

My GF was a photographer at a Secret Cinema event with Laura Marling that took place in London. She had to take some promo pictures, so they met in one of the event rooms [1] for the photoshoot. After just a few pictures they were done and instead of wrapping up, Laura started to perform one of her songs.

Not the same scale as Bob Dylan concert, but still a concert for one. A kind gesture, unconditional, free, ephemeral, but leaving a life lasting memory.

It happens to be that another pilot from a plane waiting to take off form the very same runway was filming the approach [1].

Purely by chance we have HD footage. It does make a huge difference and I agree with the sentiment that this would make flying safer.

Depends on the luxury level. At the very top the customer base consists of the most recession-proof people in the World. I assume they just carry on with their habits recession or not.

If governments are censoring our internet we need to change the way we're being geolocated. VPN is too much configuration and centralisation. TOR is over the top privacy. I want something as accessible as turning the flight mode on my mobile. The button can be placed next to flight mode and called CENSORSHIP. You can turn it on. It will then reveal your true IP address and make the internet very fast. However it's off by default. The internet is a bit slower. But your requests are being cleverly routed through random IPs that are not censored. These random IPs are provided by organisations but most importantly by peer users of the feature who happen to live in free countries. Sort of SETI@home but the goal is to increase intraterrestrial intelligence.

If you're just starting in programming you may thing that Computer Networks falls into a nice to know category. At least I did as a freshman in CS. At a time I was more interested in gaining practical knowledge: popular programming languages, frameworks, OOP. In fact you can become a successful programmer without knowing much how networks work.

The reason why I recommend learning about Computer Networks from scratch is how fascinating the subject is. The way layers are implemented, their interactions, how the overall complexity is reduced by having layers of responsibility. This pattern can be seen in other areas as well: hardware -> operating system -> SDK -> programming language -> framework -> DSL. Ultimately from a Turing complete machine to seeing 200 FPS 3D FPS game with 150 other players on your screen.

I would not be so quick to dismiss it. Belarus claims that it still is an independent country. If it uses a nuclear weapon then it cannot be treated as if Russians used it directly. At least in Russia it would be easier for propaganda to push the story that Lukashenko did it.

I recommend reading Lenin's Tomb: The Last Days of the Soviet Empire. It is an elaborate attempt to figure out the reasons behind the collapse. According to the author Chernobyl played a major role.

Makes sense, it is still a very early stage ecosystem. I wonder how this evolves in future:

1. It's a bummer if your NFT URL is bust even if you have a copy. I wonder if there would be a way for owner to append NFT URL information with non-broken URL. This way owner could ensure source files availability.

2. Playback options are very limited and often require derivative formats. It seems there is an opportunity for a service that indexes NFTs and provides convenient access to their owned content. Wallets are too limited right now. I would like to have an Apple TV app that showcases my NFT collection.

There are many negative things about the current NFT bubble we're seeing however it does feel that blockchain is finally taking off and we'll be be seeing a lot of interesting dapps in the upcoming years.

On the SE edge of the marked area Belarus is building a power plant. It is scheduled to go online July 2020 [1]. Can it be that fuel loading took place and somehow it got out and wind blew the particles towards east? (similar direction as in Chernobyl's case)

Pure speculation, but I'm Lithuanian and I'm concerned about a foreign country building a power plant 45km from my capital. CTBTO not disclosing their guess about the source makes me think it's a sensitive geopolitical matter. I just hope nothing serious has happened, but you never know with 2020.

I'm a bit sad that his MacBook is not getting more love after 16800 hours of service.

I have 2013 MacBook Pro 15, never opened, the battery lasts for 1.5 hours, tends to overheat a bit. Same story. Morally it felt old but it was still good and fast machine for me. I was contemplating of buying 16" but just could not justify throwing away this solidly engineered machine.

During quarantine bought iFixit battery replacement. Disassembled every part, cleaned religiously every area with blower, replaced swollen battery and assembled again. Took 2 hours, works fine, no fan noise, battery lasts for a long time, finally upgraded to Catalina.

Now I have a great laptop and after 7 years of using same machine I felt that I still needed to upgrade something. So I went to buy a desktop PC. It was interesting to assemble a modern PC, try Alyx and Windows 10 with WSL. I no longer need to use Paperspace for SketchUp rendering. After COVID I am planning to leave PC at home and have my MacBook at Office / Co-working.

Not saying this is the best decision, just sharing a different path taken when it came to computer upgrading.
