You are the management. It's always your fault. If you didn't actually write the bug. You could have trained the person who wrote the bug. You could have reviewed her code. You could have not let them check it in. You could have not let them work on the feature. You could have not hired them.
You could have fired them.
All this helps you do in a twisted way is figure out who you should fire. Chances are people will leave long before that.
Even though I'm not the boss of my team. Our policy is that it's always my fault. I find it liberating. Gives me an opportunity to learn from all our mistakes. And there is no finger pointing. Unless its at the management. As its always the managements fault.
Get a oven thermometer every oven is different, and you want temp of atleast 220 C, wood ovens have temps of 500 C, so the higher the better. I would even put the grill on. And put the tray into the oven while it preheats.
For the dough... Instead of room temp water use cold water (even ice cold water). For the second rise, leave it in the fridge overnight, the idea is to let it rise slowly for a long period of time.
After 2 minutes of pizza being in the oven. Spray with water, I just use the garden water spray. You want mist rather than a pool of water. This will reduce the temp a little, but will give the crust, without having to burn the pizza.

If you are happy with the IDEs then just use them. Having learned both vim and emacs over the past few years. I learned emacs so that I could use slime with lisp. Vim so that I could edit stuff on any server. Emacs has a big learning curve, vim is a bit easier to get into. If you use a mac you can try textmate, I've heard good things about it. On the vim side macvim, gvim are pretty good.
Is the objective for him to come in on time? Or for the work to be done? I guess you are having buyer's remorse. Do you guys have a way of seeing progress in the product? That would be the first thing I would do. This way you can see if the working habits need to change or not.
Though I don't have any opposition to TDD as a technique, I have an issue when some developers believe that just because the code has tests it means that it works and if the code doesn't have tests it doesn't work.
1.6 Billion people (quarter of the world's population), live without electricity. All of these people live in the developing nations. Without progress, these nations can't bring basic things like a glowing light bulb to large sections of their population.
I don't know if the chinese leadership is pragmatic or not, but it sort of makes sense to help your population today, than to help the planet in 50 years time.
I don’t think the choice is
Having lived in India and the UK, I'd say there is already a massive difference between India and UK, in terms of what we used. In India even if you can pay for water/electricity you just don't have access to it, there are regular power cuts in the summers as much as 8 hours a day in most cities. Running Water is available for a few hours a day. Most rich people drill a well and have a pump which pumps water into an overhead tank. For electricity, the rich have diesel generators, to run their homes.
In the UK, I've never experienced a power cut, never had any water shortage, no cut of gas to the house.
There just isn't any infrastructure in poorer nations. If you are poor you are on your own. If you are rich you are still on your own, but you have the resources to fix the problem for yourself.
I think it is important that 1.6 billion of us get electricity some time in the near future.
Does one need to be an expert to follow the argument and form an opinion about it? If that was the case then why don't we let the experts make decisions, not just provide information.

It works fine. But doesn't have sb-threads enabled so, at best you can use it for fun or development. Webservers like hunchentoot will give errors if you open a second request at the same time.
The way to fix this is, to do a which sbcl to find out where it's installed for me it was in /opt/local/ then download the source from http://www.sbcl.org

if you get an error that it can't find the core then copy the core in output folder in sbcl to where it says it can't find sbcl.core
that'll give you sbcl with threads on macosx and Aquamacs that loads it in a fraction of a second.

I didn't write a lot of the libraries. Maybe 50% of the code is mine, most the algorithm implementations, the rest of the stuff is picked up from previous projects or existing utilities that lisp programmer's have written.
The reason one uses lisp is because the team is small. Very small like 1 person. So sharing isn't really that much of a concern.
I agree that it makes it harder to start. Which means that very few people stick with it.
Last project I worked on had 9154 lines of lisp code out of which 4800 lines are utilities, that I've accumulated and written.
The utilities cover everything from hash, list, string, files, function, a simple version of prolog, some algorithms like bloomfilter, suffix-tree, a simple bayesian filter implementation and a lot of stuff makes writing code easier.
So it's pretty normal to have a large set of utilities that you prefer. It sort of ensures that the code doesn't become to large.
I use (hput hash key value) and (hget hash key) a couple of functions, which I have. So it's a bit verbose than hash[key] = value or hash[key]. But it lets me write stuff like...

I wrote the code that reads that defexample macro and generates the data from it in 2 days. When I started I had no idea what the grammar was going to look like and how I was going to accomplish any of the details.Lisp has support for {} syntax for hashes. It's just not built in. Use a reader macro.

I'm going to make a different kind of statement here. Something that I've learnt from my CL experience.
When I think about solving a problem by writing new software, I ask myself, is a run of a mill problem like a website which serves data, or making use of a bunch of libraries to do something. Then use rails/django, I use django/python.
If I don't know what the solution will look like and I don't think I'm going to need existing libraries. I'll use CL everytime.

I think CL is suitable for projects which are fluid and have a very few people working on them. Speaking from personal experience 1 person can get an awful lot done in CL, very quickly. Compared to any other scripting language. I've worked with CL, Python and Ruby. There are certain things that I think are impossible to write in Python.
I started by writing a domain-specific crawler which extracted certain information from a bunch of sites. But the sites I was crawling changed their design mid way. So I then ended up writing a program in CL, to which I describe the data that the site has. E.g. Name-of-city is "Edinburgh", Address is '15 Market Place, ED12', First-Movie-name is 'Bend it like Beckham', First-showing-date is '15 Jan', First-showing-time is '14:20'. The program then produces a function which when give a page from this website extracts this information in the form of an alist so that it can be pushed into the database.
Funnily enough the my site which shows this data runs on django.
