Personally, playing with the graphing and algebra functions on the calculator were hugely informative. Rapidly trying out different things, seeing how they looked how tweaking things would cause adjustment, all added educational value.

I feel like graphing calculators enable exploration in a way that doing it manually with pen and paper cannot. Obviously, pen and paper is super valuable as well, but I feel that they are complimentary.

I exclusively use trackpads like Magic Trackpad 2 when I'm on MacOS. But I exclusively use a mouse when I'm running Windows and Linux.

MacOS just seems more tailored to the touchpad experience. Windows and Linux more tailored to the mouse experience.

If you haven’t seen it you may want the fugitive plugin for vim. It seems to give a reasonable level of git magic within vim. Maybe not as magic as magit, but it does a lot including good handling of interactive rebases.

Upgrades, API compatibility, and cross version communication are really important in some domains. A bad design can cause huge pain downstream when you need to make a change.

The fact that Jellyfin lacks a AppleTV/tvOS app seems like it continues to make it a dealbreaker... at least for my setup.

I hear people recommending clients like Infuse, but it feels odd to swap out Plex at this point if I can't go all in on the open source side of things.

100%, it's one of the irksome things about the education system in general - resources are limited. It's a hard problem to solve.

I'm curious how/what you use the screens via AR for if you're not using environment locked screens. Particularly in a productivity/work environment.

Unless I'm misunderstanding the feature, it seems like enironment locked screens allows for more natural usage and interactions with the screens in the virtual space?

My experience is mostly with VR/AR products like Oculus has been mostly with environment locked AR information.

I always like these new comile time features getting into the C++ spec.

I'm actually looking forward to the related reflection features that I think are currently in scope for C++26. I've run into a number of places where the combination of reflection and constexpr could be really valuable... the current workarounds often involving macros, runtime tricks, or both.

This is why I never do the cross-eyed version of focusing on these. For me that's always been uncofortable.

Using the parallel view, or focusing out beyond the picture to make the images converge has always been easier and more comfortable for me.

I'm surprised by this, is Comcast super regional with it's restrictions? I have a Comcast 1gig plan in the Bay Area, and last I checked I get a small ($5?) discount for using my own modem. I've been on the plan for a least a few years now... so alternatively maybe I'm grandfathered in or something? Or maybe some Comcast sales person was lying to you about your options?

iOS isn’t killing OOM apps. It’s killing inactive apps. It’s something that wouldn’t fly on a desktop or server OS under general use, but works reasonably well in the mobile space.

That doesn't work if core apps start moving to third party app stores.

This is a facetious argument. The usage needs of my phone are different than the usage needs of my laptop / desktop computers.

Yeah, this is my worry about autism research/diagnosis as well. When/If we lump together what are actually a number of different underlying causes it makes it a lot more challenging to come up with strategies for treatment.

Vim has pretty good support of the lsps and tree sitters that code does (at least for the languages I’ve used), I actually have a mirrored configuration between the two to simplify when I want to jump from one to the other. :)

As some one who only uses vim/neovim in a terminal window - what’s the advantage of having GUI support in vim?

Mouse support in my terminal seems fine, even over ssh. Being able to do things like run it inside of a tmux session has always made it seem like the GUI would be a step back?

I think this sort of defense of EMacs misses a key point: most people have no interest in running a browser, email, chat, etc. from within their text editor.

Generally people prefer to do those sorts of things with specialized applications that are more tailored towards those individual use cases.

Yeah, bluetooth for things like YouTube music works fine, but it's not as streamlined - e.g. you have to do searching on the phone.

- MMO

- VR / AR with headtracking

- Generated Worlds

I also only clicked on this link because I assumed it was Nox (the game).

I had a huge amount of fun playing this when it came out. It was a little clunky, and very quirky, but it had a lot of good ideas in it.

I wish it had been more successful in the market.
