By casualties do you mean injuries/deaths (to people)? Do you have a source? From what I could find, it would be really bad for infrastructure, but not something that would outright kill or injure most of the population.
Neat idea, and the step-by-step instructions are awesome. But wow, the scenes are mind-twisters. Especially the leopards. I think one briefly sprouted wings!
Garmin’s InReach products are great for this. Emergency button, two-way texts, all satellite based, so basically full global coverage. They can also allow you to share your semi real-time location with friends and family, if that’s useful to you.
It happens to me when using Ubiquiti UniFi access points, but not as much with other brands of APs. In fact, certain models of UI APs seem to be more problematic when used with newer Macs.
CompuServe of course used the XXXXX,XXXX octal usernames, and you could append @compuserve.com for a valid email address, but later we could choose a vanity email (first come, first served), e.g., something@compuserve.com. Then later they offered @csi.com addresses. POP3 access to your CS mailbox was eventually an option, as well.
For a long time (maybe still?) you could access a terminal version of the CS interface over telnet. Basically all the same features as the GUI application, just in text.
There was also the original Microsoft Network (later shortened to MSN), which included a bunch of communities and boards. It was a Windows 95 application, and went through a semi-public beta then eventual release in parallel with the OS. You could connect through dial up or over the Internet, if I recall. I remember being impressed I could open two boards at the same time, unlike CS.
Wow, Choplifter takes me back. There was also the excellent Rescue Raiders. Spy vs. Spy on the Apple II was pretty good for multi-player fun (using one computer and keyboard), as well.
Prompted some memories of using another trackball. Back in maybe the late 80’s/early 90’s the Microsoft Ballpoint Mouse[1] was my preferred pointing device. It didn’t require a smooth surface like a normal mouse, was very portable, and attached to the side of basically any laptop.
However, it included a pressure collar of sorts, which increased the ratio of static vs. kinetic coefficient of sliding friction. Basically any time you started to move the mouse the pointer would jump. Fine movement was very difficult.
The solution was to unscrew the retainer ring, remove the pressure collar, and reassemble. Problem solved; after that it was a joy to use.
Saturn Run (by John Sanford and Ctien) explored using a VASIMR propulsion system to maintain long-term thrust. Without giving away spoilers, I can say I enjoyed the overall story and intrigue. Sort of hard sci-fi geopolitical thriller, and the authors did their best to avoid hand-wavy physics.
The title of the article is a bit misleading, as it implies that Norway (the state) tried to make this gesture.
According to the article, a Norwegian person tried to persuade the Norwegian government to “gift a mountain” peak to Finland via a border change, but the idea was ultimately rejected by the Norwegian Prime Minister.
Regarding #1 in the article, Elastic does have SQL query support[1]. I can’t speak to performance or other comparative metrics, but it’s worked well for my purposes.
I’d go so far as to say having all numbers on the back of the card will actually lessen the chance of shoulder surfing while the card is left inserted in the chip reader.
