I think there is a fundamental idea that the only way to measure success of companies is the monetary value to shareholders. US companies optimize for that and they cannot believe other countries/cultures would have a different value system.

I think the discussions are also missing another key element. The time in takes to read someone else code is way more mentally tiring.

When I am writing the code, my mind tracks what I have done and the new pieces flow. When I am reading code written by someone else, there is no flow.. I have to track individual pieces and go back and forth on what was done before.

Take Alabama or Oklahoma for example - their policies have made those states backward. People in those states have poor education outcomes, less wealth and less health, lower social mobility etc. It impacts everyone in those states. Either the opposition needs to mobilize, message better etc. or the voters need to compare and realize what they are missing. If not, they will continue to face the consequences.

Paolo - I read your article, but I disagree with a few fundamental assumptions. 1. There is an implicit assumption that small changes in product behavior is a small change in the underlying code. 2. AI will increase productivity by a huge amount for production ready code. 3. Developers spend all the time coding.

I will take the last one first. When I was managing large teams, my assumption is that a developer spends about 25% of the time actually coding. Let us say, AI makes them 50% more productive. So, you got a real gain of 12.5%. It is nowhere as huge as you put on your chart.

AI coding seems really great for one-off prototypes or some small, well-defined pieces, but they are not ready for production code. Multiple research papers have found AI code to be less secure, more buggy etc and they hinder rather than help experienced developers. So, you are going to lose even more of the hypothetical 12.5% gain here.

Finally, your post seems to say that the developers are not prioritizing your work, not that they are not working. Even if they are more productive, there is still no guarantee your feature will get prioritized.

The solution to your stated problem seem to be inability to get your work prioritized and nothing to do with AI or developer productivity.

If you are staying with your parents, I do not think Medicaid covers you. I do not see where you get < $50 for car insurance when you are under 26. Assuming a family like June Huh, they are much more likely to live in urban areas which does not fit into your cost model.
