I think value-based care is the only real incentive on this. Otherwise, there is simply no reason for anyone to care enough. Even the insurers, they found a way to make money by making sure their premiums factor in these things. In the expense of the patient. It became faster and worse. My definite proof is its ability to generate greek content. The early API was generating good or at least passable content. It was really on the edge of "this is good". I want to offer a counterpoint to the current consensus in the comments from (my) real-world interactions. In many countries outside of US, Twitter is occupied by a minority audience which is usually in its own bubble. Instagram is much more popular especially in Millenials who are now in the age group where they start to be more politically active and less motivated by the "pure entertainement" side of the social media.

Facebook, is dead for them in terms of engagement because its the "old people" place and discoverability is quite bad outside of groups. I know many people who use Instagram for social/policy commentary in their stories, and its very inefficient because its one-way. Pictures do not allow for proper discussion or easy discoverability of comments.

Even tiktok has better interaction via duets and pushing up new content all the time but conversation is limited.

I believe that instagram is mainstream enough to entice this group into a forum-like experience and drive insane engagement. Currently, if you are not traveling or doing some kind of beauty influencing, instagram is dead and its successor (tiktok) is limited to short videos. There is a legit market for more long-form/term discussion place in that (very important) age group outside of the US especially.

They didn't beat them because they are faster. They beat them because it was something big tech did not want to happen. The space you have for ads is severely limited and the fact that no moat exists means that you will need alternative ways to fund it (or skyrocket the ad costs).

I suspect that those who don't care about privacy or can't afford to pay, will be swarmed with AI-seo results from an ad-supported model, but people will FINALLLY have the choice to pay and avoid this ad-fest. And who knows, maybe when open-source catches up, it will even be affordable enough that ad-tech will shrink considerably.

Google has maximized their ad revenue with their current model. You don't have the same ad real estate in your example and that is a problem. Now they get money for impressions on a whole page, and clicks from people trying to find the right fit among the seo. I believe that google wants information filtering but not too much as it needs current estate for ads.

Google is an advertising business. Can you sell more ads with AI? I would say no. And even if you can, having an automated smart assistant being able to "cut" through the BS is certainly not as good for Google as clicking a bunch of sites trying to battle SEO.

However the judge is still out in regards to how much can AI allow Google to squeeze the profit margins of businesses by offering even better conversion rates. Personally, I don't think it will make a big difference, the AI will not make you buy more. I suspect Google makes more money by having multiple companies fight for the same customer than actually making a conversion.

IMO best case scenario for Google is to keep their search market. Table stakes is keeping search relevant at all.

My thesis is that capitalism is eating itself by neglecting to appropriately allocate resources in cultural progression, instead it focuses solely on efficiency, and technological advancement.

Wouldn't be far fetched for the humans of our age to be seen as the generation of hubris by a less technologically advanced but ultimately surviving culture in the future.

I've always seen the appeal of ancient Greek culture in the West as a cultural bedrock on which Christianity and Enlightenment built upon. The very fact that we consider democracy as the best political system shows that clearly the ideas resonated with us from a historical and cultural point of view.

However, in the modern age it seems like metamodernism has become king, and that is something that does not play well with ancient greek culture and its derivatives. I am a firm believer that the crisis of the West is a cultural crisis where the departure from the ideas that shaped us, lead us into this kind of metamodern nihilism that everyone sees around them.

Ancient greek ideas and philosophy are still relatively unspoiled from modern institutions (except Democracy of course, but thats another point), which means that reviving some of the ethos found there could actually help us find some purpose again.

I admittedly have hard time finding exact synonyms in english, but the point is that αρετή according to I think Aristoteles (need fact checking) is the ultimate virtue to strive for.

I find this posts being word-noise. We can't agree what is "intelligence" and the goalposts are moving depending on who you ask and when. I think then more interesting question would be "If AGI came, would we know?"
