I'm a diet coke addict and the way I deal with it is that I drink half a bottle and keep the rest for latter. The fact that I know that I still have a half-full soda makes me not want to buy another. And if I feel like drinking some soda I just take a sip. The soda is at room temperature so it tastes like shit. This crappy taste makes not want to drink anymore and I can go without buying a new bottle of diet coke for more than a week. Sometimes I can last a month. By using this method I don't feel guilty if every once in a while I have a soda and I've been able to reduce my daily intake of a bottle of soda to just one small bottle (20FL oz) every one or two weeks.

I see plenty or rabbits and few birds. I'm sure I could find more if cared to spend more time on this.

So why is it so bad to have rich people relocate to your country?

I normally do not care about down-votes and I still don't but for people who are downvoting me explain to me this: Where can I go and read the constitution that exists but that it is not written down anywhere? It's an oxymoron. So for all practical purposes there is no constitution.

Only because Trump's supporters were spread out in the right places. Hillary won the popular vote by almost 3 million votes so I would not brag about anything if I were you. That large opposition force that surpasses all Trump supporters will not go away. Comments like yours will only piss them off much more and if Trump fucks it up even people that voted for him will turn on him on a dime. This is not over my Trump supporter.

I agree with you. Poor people not studying for the test is a problem with culture. It is the crappy culture they have learnt from their parents that is keeping them down. The parents don't know any better or don't care and henceforth they never push their kids to prepare for those test.

No, if the employee keeps not reaching his potential then it is right to call him out on this. Do this only if the employee is not carrying his own weight when you know he is capable of more, otherwise just fire him. Of course, if your manager is being an abusive asshole then leave to another company.

I'm really missing the point you are trying to make. People prepare for the SAT to get a better grade and you think it is unfair. WTF? Actually, I do get it I just think it is insane that you think it is a reasonable point, as if it were a moral imperative.

What I do not get is why you think this way. People are simply trying to improve their chances by studying and trying to get a better SAT. It baffles me that you think this is somehow corrupt.

Your point seems to be that poor people cannot prepare for the SAT because they do not have the resources. I agree, but I think you should instead focus on fixing poverty. How? I have no idea.

You cannot stop people from studying or preparing themselves to have an advantage over everybody else, that is just crazy thinking.

I know exactly what you mean. Whenever I wanted to try something new, like apply to an internship, my brain tried really hard to convince me not to do it because I would get rejected. My subconscious tried really hard into making me a complete looser. To this day I sometimes have to tell it to shut up.

I come from the bottom of the bottom. I felt intimidated by everybody, especially those people that belonged to a higher income family. The good upbringing was noticeable.

I will also deny that I helped the Russians.

I really like your stuff. I've also discovered a new film that I can watch: "Capture The Flag". Seems like a good film. I'm surprised that I knew nothing about it, even though I'm an avid film consumer. I guess marketing really is important.

It would be great if you could write a blog post of how you create one of your pieces from scratch. It doesn't have to go into every single detail. At least enough so that those of us that would like to imitate you can learn from you. Something like this would be useful [1]. It doesn't have to be a film tutorial, just a blog post would be enough. Thanks.

I used to think this and then look who we elected. In reality, you just have to keep making up lies on top of lies and somehow things seem to work out for you. Just never admit fault and reflect all your bad qualities on your critics and there is a good chance that at least you will muddle the waters.

What bothers me out of this discussion is that people are getting upset about the price they choose to sell the book at. People feel way too entitled. They could sell it at a million bucks each and if people were willing to pay that then why would anybody complain. Unless you feel you somehow have a God given right to decide how people sell their own products.

That is the rational approach, but we are emotional beings and we cannot always be completely detached.

We do not really know why. It's like trying to figure out why somebody won the lotto. Statistically speaking, somebody will. Same with longevity, statistically speaking, a few will make it pass 100.

She is probably doing it because she likes the work. She feels good earning a bit of money even if she doesn't really need it. The sense of fulfillment is probably worth a lot more than the actual monetary value. Lots of us derive happiness from work or from feeling useful.

I know at least one old timer (early eighties) that gets really happy when heading over to exchange his bag of aluminum cans. He lives in his daughters home and he doesn't really need money. My thinking is that it makes him happy to earn a bit of money completely on his own, at his age.

Being enslaved for hundreds of years and after the emancipation being denied full rights I think has something to do with that. They were purposely held back as much as possible by white people. Not sure why you cannot see this.

Right. The proclamation was made after the civil war started. But the war was because the North started to act as if it no longer agreed with slavery, which the South saw as a threat, since it depended so much on it. Lincoln promised that slavery would not be allowed in new territories, the south states saw the writing on the wall, and that caused the war. Yeah, the United States didn't exactly quit cold turkey before the war but close enough I think.

The singularity already happened, in meat space, i.e. Humans. Now those same humans are trying to create AI's smarter than themselves. We still have not accomplished it but we will. All of this looks self evident from my point of view.

Remember, people used to think that humans would never fly. But why would they think that? There was plenty of evidence that flight was possible. Evolution invented flight, then we did the same. Evolution invented GAI in meat space, now is our turn to do it. This is a virtual certainty, unless we destroy ourselves.

Assuming you are the only one that controls the GAI then yes, you will be more powerful than the entire planet. The government and Google are powerful because they have all those brains working together to solve and accomplish problems and tasks, respectively. But a single GAI can outdo all of them in any task.

A GAI will be smarter than the entire human race combined. It really does not matter how much computing power you have if it is not GAI.

Hmmm. Seeing as they've been quiet for a long time my impression was that they simply stopped being viable or relevant, not with a bang, but with a whimper.
