30 year fixed mortgages are actually not as good of an idea as you'd think.

I actually spent a significant part of my early career working with real estate economists.

A bunch of economists I know actually lost money fixing their mortgages in 2008. They fixed at too high a rate and weren't prepared for the low interest rates environment.

I think to add to this.

If you're a fully employed professional of some means, which a huge amount of folk reading this are.

Pay for your shareware software. Usually with independent SaaS software, after I've used software for 6+ months or more, I pay for the lifetime license.

It's just polite.

Why is paying money for ethical, user-respecting software like Sublime Text a bad thing?

Sublime HQ the company maintains an excellent reputation, and does a wonderful job.

I find the issue is most of the niceties are also built into Rust.

Scala's perfectly good though, there's very little to complain about.

I agree with this, immensely.

Your goal is to get your message across when your writing is skimmed.

That takes immense skill as a writer. Immense skill.

Paris Review is a great book to get an overview of mastering this skill.
