No no no.. go one better for the Mac. It should be whichever device/s which are next to be made legacy from Apple’s 7 year support window. That way you’re actually catering to the lowest common denominator.

Apple M3 Ultra 1 year ago

Is there a single Apple SoC where they’ve provided removable ram? Not that I can recall.

96gb on baseline model m3 ultra with a max of 512gb! Looks like they’re leaning in hard with the AI crowd.

Affinity 2 4 years ago

Also it appears the new v2 licensing approach does not support Family Purchases, which is a step backward in my view.

While he may not of penned it himself, he is certainly funding 50% of the rather generous severance and that should count for something by comparison.

Correction: They /attempted/ to add an /optional/ feature for your /children's/ account(s).

Do you have kids? Daughters? Would you like better control over what they're exposed to? Being given the tools to track screen time, purchases and control where possible exposure to objectionable content for immature minds isn't a bad thing.. provided it is opt-in. Which the feature always was before the news cycle chose their own narrative.

EVE Online has highly sophisticated user fingerprinting to prevent fraud and real money trading. So even if you got through with that email address it wouldn't be long before an issue was raised for your account.

With EVE, fraud comes in many ways and most would presume credit card fraud but because you can earn ISK in-game, which can be converted/sold for PLEX (their game-time subscription currency, worth real $) many items (Capital Ships, High Experience Characters, Corporations) are bought and sold for real money outside of the platform - which in some cases, is revenue that EVE would/could benefit from if PLEX was purchased from them directly and used legitimately instead.

So aside from basic things like blocking utility email addresses, they have sophisticated algorithms that monitor user accounts for unusual activity. The definition of unusual is constantly growing/changing and it is monitored and managed by a dedicated "security" team.

Source: Friend of friend works in that security team.

Although to be fair, while this has been super annoying, they are slowly getting there with recent releases. It definitely has the new product manager 'start from scratch clean slate' vs 'inherited mess' while co-existing vibes. Once they have hit parity, the cadence of this new team's releases should turn into a feature because they are consistently releasing updates/fixes way differently to previous management.

I still hate that the iOS Protect UX/UI has never used their own app beyond 9-5, as dark mode was removed and the interface is PURE WHITE. The iOS Network UX/UI designer has clearly used their app at night, hence a dark mode existing.

I'm not sure if you're guessing, but DocuSign and Adobe Sign's per-envelope (not per signature) rate is expensive and doesn't scale down on volume as quickly as you'd think. In fact, to get lower rates.. you need to buy their "X" and "Y" products/addons (e.g. Contract Lifecycle Management).

Bottom line is, whilst the name of this new service is bad and would immediately get a no from our execs, there is a market for a pay-as-you-go service like what they're providing.. especially as it becomes commoditised thanks to the pioneers.

Loving the look of this. Amazing work! Are there any plans to provide diagramming and documentation support? Since I’m on MacOS One feature I really liked about DBSchema (Java for cross platform) was the ability to digram tables and relationships easily and then generate HTML5 documentation or quickly and easily for the Business Analysts. As others have said the core functionality you’re delivering here is already slick, and worthy of at least donations for the 4-5 days a month you are dedicating to this project.

Indeed. In particular is when an update is released for an app on the App Store where the developer removes or moves features to subscription or 'in app purchase'. "Free to Fee". If this isn't mentioned in the update notes, and you update, there is no way to go back to the functionality you were 'happy with' at "Free". Given most users exchanged their privacy for "free", and typically that exchange is irreversible once completed, the option to revert to a previous version should be made available.

With regards to “just as good”, don’t forget M1 is like 25 watts max draw at the wall. You are also paying an inefficiency premium for the life of your “cobbled together” config. There are pros/cons.

Your comment just sparked an interesting question in my mind: If a drive has failed, until now I always imagined the drive was just trashed. But now that you mention they are probably RMA'ing them, do you think that BackBlaze send the RMA drives through a magnetic tunnel of some sort before they ship the drives back to the manufacturer? Because otherwise, how do they ensure potentially unencrypted customer files are not accessed during the repair/refurbishment process?

Another great article from Troy. I personally believe that Google is intentionally flagging their ad network to ensure a large majority of the 'web' and subsequent developers are made aware of the impending changes. However, the console does not make it clear that we're talking about a change that is being implemented in less than a month.

Notice how the responses are honest ones, where people would rather skip the report than supply their real email address? The target demographic are tech savvy, so 90% of the leads are going to be 10MM email addresses.

The popularity of this thread illustrate that there is a need/use for this content - so Cockroach nailed the bait, but have massively overshot the type of trap required to convert these savvy mice.
