I think we should replace politicians and obviously flawed democratic process with a top down style economy run by Economists.
Obviously we will have to have some kind of mechanism for choosing between these Economists, as some have shown to be pretty far off in their predictions.
Some sort of system based on the casting and counting of votes perhaps.
On a completely unconnected note, what was the name of that technique that GCHQ uses to disrupt online forums and subtly undermine peoples reputations?
I'm going to have another go at this, because I just realised I did something I hate. I really wanted to make my comment something that could change your mind, rather than just express my displeasure at your opinions - so here goes...
Your statements about how you see the world are very black and white, but the world you are talking about is very very complex, and there are infinite shades of grey. If you went outside and interacted with other people without prejudging the outcome I think that you would have plenty of experiences which do not conform to your expectations of how the world is. I say 'expectations' because I don't think you've attempted to disprove your own assumptions - and I think your assumptions are based not on your own experiences, but on anecdotes from echo chambers (usernet, etc.) (now i'm assuming too much - but you can tell me if i'm wrong).
Maybe you have had some bad personal experiences that lead you to your views on harpy women, proles and aggressively muscular men. I would like to hear what they are.
If you want to have an interesting and fun life don't waste your time being bitter. Your bitterness will achieve nothing, because no one is interested in it.
Let me be clear, they are not actively out there hating you because of the views you hold - they just hold no opinion at all about you, one way or the other.
I am not one of those people.
I am glad you are a recluse. You've made the right choice.
Good luck and goodbye
Each line of those bulletpoints was for a different company facebook, google then amazon
I am encouraged by this advertising companies attempts at designing cars.
The moonshot program seems to me to be either Google cementing it's position forever in the knowledge economy or a desperate scrabble for another hit.
If the latter is true, then I have hope for the future. It means that the giants - Google (+ Youtube), Amazon, Facebook - can fall. They are not on as strong a footing as it seems.
All it takes is...
- One generation of kids to decide to eschew Facebook (or any product it buys)
- Ad revenue declining or another viable internet business model to rise up and replace it
- More efficient / free marketplaces
If you're talking about the one starting with a D and ending in ominos - Put all fake data in except for address and pay cash on delivery. In my experience even thisisafakeemail@example.com and 00000 555 555 for phone number works a treat.
Save yourself a lot of support time/costs and remove the 'free' option. Your homepage sells the product well and shows its benefits. From the feedback you've already received it looks like you are providing more than $50 worth of value.
Just one more point.
I actually don't think that "one of the biggest geopolitical events of a decade" should be on HN if it is not directly connected to Tech.
Here is a more fitting article to be on HN: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-switch/wp/2016/06/24...
There are plenty of other forums for talking about this subject.
In the past, i've found HN Comments about political issues to be of the least quality/value.
A fair point - i have removed that part of the comment as it is not massively connected to my main point. Also, have an upvote
London throws it's toys out of the pram.
It's quite funny to see the commentators who never saw this result coming are now the ones with all of the explanations as to why it has happened. Watching them evolve a new narrative in real time is quite funny. Apparently 50% of the country are racists, or so stupid that they have been easily duped by the bad politicians. There couldn't possibly be any other explanations.
The backers of the DAO selflessly created a $150 million bug bounty for Ethereum and their Smart Contract - Good for them.
Since when did HN become reddit? Why is this story even on here?
something about your comment makes me thing about cloud computing.
A auction in which everyone interested bids on access to an asteroid based on...
- Time they have access to asteroid
- Type of resource they want to extract
- Quantity of resource they want to extract
Time cost is paid upfront and distributed evenly amongst worlds countries.
Type/Qty is paid for on return to Earth in either cash or using resource itself.
Would you be willing to share your list of mistakes with the group?

Facebook App copies your phone book.
Facebook App copies your matches phone book.
Facebook finds that your phone book contains your matches number and vice-versa.
Facebook suggests your match as a friend and vice-versa.
Nice and simple.
The author actually goes into detail about why they created this project on the about page: https://runemadsen.github.io/rune.js/about.html
On a side note, regardless of the alternatives, or that there is a 'better' way to do things, I found this project very impressive.
The author has released their work open source (https://github.com/runemadsen/rune.js/blob/master/LICENSE). It is people like the author that drive large parts of our industry, with generous donation of their spare time. Given this, it is frustrating to see the unhelpful choice of words of people in this comments section.
If you ask a question like "Wouldn't you want to be on the right platform?", people will answer the question.
I don't know the tone of voice you were going for with the text, but it stirs ugly emotions in me.
You should remove "Why can I only sign in with Twitter?" as the text following it ("What is the Twitter integration?") is much more informative.
The site looks great though and it's an interesting idea - congratulations on shipping
I think i made it clear in my comment that I also dis-agree with it being a criminal matter. That was not really the argument I was responding to.
My initial comment was a reaction to the sense of entitlement that I sensed in the comment.
My response may be out of place in this thread, but no more than the initial comment.
If I have mis-interpreted the initial content, then I apologies, but I still don't think I have.
Again, I am totally against Hollywoods overreach and attempts to inflict a dying business model by the means described in the article.
A business wanting to make more money by charging for their good/bad/ok product? how evil.
I don't agree that copyright infringement should be a criminal rather than civil matter.
Even when I'm watching a mediocre movie, I still appreciate that it took lots of peoples time and money to create.
Edit: updated with word 'more' in response to response to this response of a response
I would love to be able to travel between one of your houses in London to Bali with only a carry on luggage (e.g. a few days clothes and my laptop) - then have a box of clothes follow me within the week.
Clothes are probably a good place to start. Having a simple cupboard draw that is automatically sent would be good (cost permitting).
- Most people shouldn't have a problem with you searching through this sort of thing for illicit goods
- I think it is mainly clothes that take up the bulk of space in peoples suitcases
- Clothes can be compressed for space/cost efficiency
Edit: added an extra thing!
Have you considered having some storage in the house that automatically follows you around the world as you move from place to place ? i.e. your belongings just turn up at the house you are currently staying in without you having to deal with shipping?
Edit: to clarify/simplify
When i'm on youtube I like to open loads of tabs before going through each one later. With click to play for flash this wasn't a problem, but html5 will autoplay and get very annoying.
Is there a way around this? Do you think Youtube would be for or against that (i.e. do they really want me opening more than one tab?)
