Hi there! I just wanted to let you know that I read the blog posts, and membrane sounds extremely cool. Ambitious, though. If you don’t mind a small bit of feedback: it would be encouraging to potential users or testers to see some semi-regular posts related to development. It would also be great to see how membrane might work to build a tool using current APIs. I know there is video forthcoming, and perhaps this will be addressed. I didn’t look at the GitHub, where I probably could glean some additional info. But from my perspective, a development blog builds trust and anticipation. It’s also a great way to check your assumptions (or have them checked, rather).

Good luck with the project. I hope it delivers, because I’d love to use it. Signed up for the mailing list.

You’re actually getting at some of the issues the article explores. The case studies are there to illustrate; they’re not the central point. I almost dismissed the piece based on the headline, but I’m glad I didn’t. You might find it unexpectedly interesting too. If I misjudged whether or not you read the OP, my sincere apologies. Me too, it’s the most low-key killer feature of the OS imo. I use it automatically just to check my assumptions most most of the time; it’s just so easy and easily ingrained.

I suppose you could look at it that way. I certainly did, and it has taken me a very (stupid) long time come to a slightly different understanding. Not saying it is better necessarily. I just find it closer to true more of the time in my life.

Misusing words may or may not be stupid—without more information, including some nebulous stuff about intent and interpretation, I have no way of saying for sure in a given encounter.

What I would say instead is that many people seem to see “misuses words because [cocky/pretentious/know-it-all/careless]” as a heuristic for stupid. It isn’t a great heuristic, but knowing that people use it to rank you and choosing speech accordingly…isn’t stupid.

In all seriousness, I live on the Big Island of Hawai’i and have been involved with our wonderful college of tropical agriculture many times over the years. I also know the university of which it is a part, having attended as an adult in my thirties. I have a pdf written by researchers at the tropical ag then-outpost from the thirties. Many, many pages and photos of different avocado varieties. And that was nearly a century ago

If you’re polite and whatnot, you should be able to call or email someone at the topical ag school (CTAHR is the name ) should be able to point you to at avocado data, including images. I haven’t seen it, but I know it exists. I have seen other collections there, but the big island has a staggering number of different avocado cultivars currently being grown at any one time. They’re economically important, and thus well studied. Yeah, call the school. Be nice, because you will not get anywhere if you’re traveling at full mainland speed.

That seems like a perfect use of node-red. Your setup sounds pragmatic and effective; I’m sure there would be an audience for some kind of write up with diagrams, especially if it also functions as a node-red tutorial (of sorts). I know that I am regularly designing control systems for hobbyist ag setups, and I pretty quickly hit a wall due to having minimal coding background. Something like node-red seems really useful for someone in my situation. Thanks for the ideas!
