We are starting the Personal Information Revolution.

We started by giving users a way of owning and being in control of their online identity. We chose valid domain names (enhanced with some simple software and an open public resource schema) as our unique identifiers.

We call this Open NetID.

Then we combined this with a open source personal communications hub that enables people to control the storage and sharing of their information with others. Using a single identifier, their NetID, they can now share their content with others and vica-versa.

We call this a HubSite.

Finally we made it available for download to self-host on virtually any PC.

We call this a Ucentric internet.

That is what we are all about.

Nice!

No blowhard, just a cool service.

I think that this advice only applies to commercial sites. I have several personal domains such as Richard.sDoma.in and Richard.sMyNa.me which are far superior to any .com domain name.

Personal users are only just starting to get into having a personal URL to hosting their own id and blog etc. and with over 2 billion internet users and only around 140million registered domains, I think attitudes will change quickly. At least for the personal user.

Because we are the people pushing the bubble to the point of busting. Entrepreneurs with all their faults are a necessary evil, if you consider us such.

We chart the newest frontiers.Taking risks with our lives, our finances and our futures in the vain hope we will make the world an ever-so-slightly better place in which to live.

Yes most of us fail, but does that mean we don't deserve our own spotlight, voice or recognition for - at the very least - trying?

I am sorry but I don't find it all that appealing personally. It is not really catch or memorable and gives no hint as to what your site is about.

Try expanding your search to include the non-std tlds as it is still possible to secure a great name. For example communic.do is available from the .do tld and whilst not quite on-message for your site, it is far superior to what you have and is really catchy and memorable.

Ps if you do want that domain let me know and I will advise the registra to release it as we have it reserved but ended up going with innuen.do for our project)

Very disappointing especially with $200k behind them to do this properly and so many hopeful supporters.

As we predicted this is just another propitiatory system with open source code. Sort of like OpenID.Clever PR but not really what it claims to be.

How do you justify using the 'open' when it is based upon a propitiatory naming system? With Diaspora, whoever owns trydiaspora.com (anyone know who does?) owns your content and connections, meaning you are effectively trusting someone who is hiding their identity. Nice.

We try repeatedly to reach out to the Diaspora team when they kicked-off with an alternative that is 100% open and user-centric called NetID (see http://ucentric.org) but were ignored.

I guess that when you have $200,000 and no one to answer to, you can pretty much ignore your stated goals and anyone trying to help you achieve them.It also looks like that is basically what they are delivering for the $200k they raised as their blog suggests it is now an open project for the community to finish off...

As a side issue, is there any truth in the rumor that Zuckerberg gave them $100K?
