Some feedback, this is just me personally - wanted more of a preview of what I'd actually be getting before signing up - reluctantly signed up after seeing you had a promo code - still don't want give up a credit card just to see what I'd be getting, I got into the dashboard after creating an account but immediately was put into checkout for a trial

Overall too much friction for me to go from landing page to giving up my credit card.

I was wondering this too. The price difference is actually $16 not $20. Shopify Lite ($9) + TinyStore ($5). It seems like a pretty narrow niche and easily killed should Shopify address the narrow gap there. I would also wonder if Shopify already has the data to be able to make the judgement call that this narrow price range doesn't have the demand.

I think you're more likely to hit Netlify's limit of 125k requests per month vs the 100hr limit.

You can accomplish with something like TinyLetter (https://tinyletter.com/) or Revue (https://www.getrevue.co). Not sure why he went the slightly more difficult route of using a service like MailChimp. (which also happens to own TinyLetter)

I think its a sad day that we can't attempt to be intellectually curious just because its politically related. This last election has prompted me to start reading more on both sides and has lead me to some other readings such as the constitution, economic theory, history, etc.

It is possible to talk about these topics from an academic perspective and it feels like banning it for a week is equivalent to putting your head in the sand and ignoring it because its too hard to have a conversation about it. This is exactly the behavior I was motivated to try and change in myself (stick to tech only, ignore other issues).

Yes, its very difficult to talk about some politics in thoughtful ways but I would hope a community like HN has the people needed to try and address some of the issues coming up. Be it technical (detecting fake news, biases, etc) or intellectual commentary.

I like the fresh take on organizing the example but I disagree with the 2nd bullet point. Jérôme Gravel-Niquet's example encapsulates everything inside of an anonymous function and I don't see any var leakage into the global namespace.

Agree. All you can really ask for is feedback on the landing page not your startup. For all I know you're in the first stages of determining whether there's enough interest in this to pursue it.

I think the challenge in writing a good job post is finding your voice and putting together a concise (balance of bullet points and conversation) writeup which feels personal. Either approach pointed out here can come off sounding mechanical, dry and just don't read that well.

I also like when some of the marketing jargon is left out and it reads like a plain english description of what your company is trying to do. Don't pitch me with buzz words. Just describe the potential opportunity and the challenges that might appeal to me.

Agreed. My initial impression was those photos were static implying that the service was audio chat only. I went looking through the features to see if video chat was possible.

Kindle support should be pointed out and while both say they support it, I found Readability's to be much more reliable. As much as I liked to support Marco with Instapaper I had to stop donating and switch. Sending to my kindle wasn't working any longer and Marco was never returning any emails I sent off inquiring about the issues I was having. So far Readability's Kindle support has been working perfectly for me.

I've heard anecdotally that setting those css animations via JavaScript vs defining them in a stylesheet, then toggling classes in the code, yields slightly better performance. I have nothing to back that up but would be interested in hearing if other's have noticed the same thing.

Right. They succeeded in getting more funding. They haven't succeeded as a profitable company yet.
